George, aka Jorge... A love story built on honest, clever, quiet jubilation--steering clear of mushiness and sentamentalism--JUMP TOMORROW interweaves the lives and dreams of three unique characters. George, aka Jorge (Tunde Adebimpe), is a sweet, shy man with deadpan facial expressions and a monotone voice. But underneath his stoic surface, Jorge is a true tiger with wild dreams and a passion for life. He takes a few days off work to travel to Niagara Falls where he is to meet his bride, Sophie, for a marriage arranged by his African relatives. On the way to Niagara, Jorge meets Gérard (Hippolyte Girardot), an outspoken French man with his heart on his sleeve whose would-be fiancée has just refused to marry him. The two forlorn men are invited to a party by a beautiful, exciting Spanish woman, Alicia (Natalia Verbeke), with whom Jorge falls instantly in love. The rest of the film is a game of leapfrog, with the unlikely--but perfectly compatible--pair of Jorge and Gérard piggybacking Alicia and her spaced out Canadian boyfriend, Nathan, along the highway to Niagara Falls...and beyond. Director Joel Hopkins presents an excellent feature debut with JUMP TOMORROW. Using a bold and playful color scheme, uncandid theatrical scenes involving line dances and fantasy sequences, a relaxed and personal camera technique, and a tangy, lounge music score, the film is visually and emotionally refreshing. George is one of the great characters in recent memory and, along with the comedy of Gerard and the free-spiritedness of Alicia, the film works on almost all levels.

One of those stories where two opposites meet and learn important lessons from each other, but it doesn't feel like a lesson movie.

A sweet little oddity that ultimately leaves you -- and George -- with a smile.

Somehow it works just fine, mostly because its indie eccentricities never become too cute to stomach.

There are fine performances and smart comic flourishes throughout.

The film takes its multiethnic casting for granted, and the earnest Adebimpe gives the comically pleasing impression of a man uncomfortable in his own skin.

The sweetness at the core of the raggedy low-budget romantic comedy Jump Tomorrow is hard to resist.

The whole affair is fun and light, to be sure; so fun and light it almost floats away.

With its lollipop colors and the breezy la-la-la's on the soundtrack, Jump Tomorrow is a charmingly kitschy trifle.

A sweet, funny story about love that, with the help of an excellent cast, is one of the nicest surprises of the year.
