Total Recall: And the Oscar Goes To...
by Alex Vo | February 20, 2008
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

Instead of focusing on one hot movie for Total Recall, this week you'll get five. They're a little old now, but I think you'll forgive me -- after all, they're Atonement, Juno, Michael Clayton, No Country for Old Men, and There Will Be Blood. Back to Article

The title THERE WILL BE BLOOD is meant to symbolize oil as blood throughout the film. PT Anderson did that wonderfully and I loved the fact that the very last still of the film shows a pool of blood. What wonderful directing by Anderson. This is by far the best film of the year.

Hate to break it to you, chief, but Crash DID suck.

Movies that win awards are generally the worst movies of the year.

here it goes.....no country deserves it. its searing portrayal of violence and desperation mixed with the brilliant direction of the coens has no match this year, at least not within the best pic category. nor best director, or in this case, directors. i really don't get all the Juno haters, as i really enjoyed it, but i do agree that it does not deserve the best pic, however i believe page has a shot of pulling a strong upset over Julie christie or Marion cotillard. Micheal Clayton, as intense and riveting as it was, probably will not only not win best pic, but probably won't win any of the awards its nominated for (take that Roeper!). Atonement 4 me was quite overrated, so even though it won several best pic awards, it probably won't take the big one. TWBB will get best actor for DDL's historic performance. anything else, imo, would be travesty. Snubs 4 me include Zodiac 4 any major award, 3:10 to yuma for anything, and, imo, denzel and russel for American Gangster.

Thats why I love MICHAEL CLAYTON,it brings back that old classic conspiracy 70's feel that has been lost in this genre for a long time. My 10- NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, MICHAEL CLAYTON, THERE WILL BE BLOOD, ZODIAC, AMERICAN GANGSTER, INTO THE WILD, SWEENEY TODD, ATONEMENT, 3:10 TO YUMA, AND GONE BABY GONE. Also I really think Day Lewis's amazing performance has been really overshadowing PAUL DANO'S great performance. I thought ELI SUNDAY was just as great and as interesting as DAINIEL PLAINVIEW.

Juno was a great movie but best movie of the year??

hmmmm I dont think so. I would vote for No Country for Old Men with TWBB a close second.

No Country was amazing, even with its questionable ending.

Everyone who went to see "No country for old men" said in the theatre, after reading the unbelievably shameless critic lauding for this movie:

"IS THAT IT?! IS THIS ALL?? That's the ****ing end?!"

This nihilistic, immoral movie ("No country") has NO THEME and it goes toward no direction or no goal whatsover EXCEPT THAT OF LAUDING EVIL CHARACTERS---

The movie's ending proves just at the fact that the Coen Brothers have spit at your face, took your ticket money, and had you wasting time at the theater watching a theme-less, pointless, evil worshipping movie, which has no logical or moral ending.

The stupid Academy just gave Javier Bardem an undeserved Oscar for playing an depraved and un-realistic super-human villian (surrounded by an entire police force, who probably happens to be BLIND...) --who would barely feel less out-of-sync in a bad comics-related movie.

Critics are *******s in-love with their own tasteless tastes, and they want everyone to follow and love thier horrible and terrible nihilistic and discusting choices.

Truely, I have yet to meet at least on person, who was NOT dissapointed by "No country" OR by the unusual, unproportional, worshipping and lauding of the Critics to this truely underserving film by the Coens.
