I like this movie a lot.
Technically speaking, this is a romantic sports comedy. We don't get many films in which these elements work well as a team.
Intersperses the suds with zippy basketball sequences that feature NBA pros, and a hip-hop soundtrack that steers the film to a mild, steady beat.
You can almost see the studio accountants counting the demographic hot spots Just Wright should connect with as the movie reels by.
Just Wright is an easy enough way to pass an afternoon, and it is refreshing to see a plus-sized woman on screen that isn't, for one second, fretting about her weight.
Latifah and Common create something that's all too rare in contemporary romantic comedies, and that's the sense that their characters actually, you know, like each other.
Just Wright's heart is in the right place. It just doesn't know what to do with it.
Flips the over-expressed male fantasy of the socially awkward guy who somehow ends up with the hottest girl.
Just about bearable.
A bland Cinderella story that never steps out of its comfort zone.
It might not be the blandest rom-com youve ever seen, but its sure within striking distance.
Utterly predictable, unbearably trite.
Easy-going and sweet-natured, this "romantic sports comedy" finally dissolves into a gooey mess of over-cooked comfort food.
It's rescued by the warmth of the two central performances. It also makes a pleasant change to see a woman of generous proportions land a handsome guy.
Take a pro basketball player with a career-threatening knee injury and an ugly-duckling nurse and you've got the blueprint for a steamroller of sopp that knows no shame.
Likeable turns from Queen Latifah, Common and Pam Grier elevate the fairly rote material -- no big surprises here -- into a fun, basketball-based spin on the romantic-comedy.
If film titles get any lazier than this, I'm flying to Hollywood and setting fire to the Writers' Guild HQ building.
For the romatically inclined, it's just right.
Stays watchable thanks to a charming, likeable performance from Queen Latifah, but it's also insipid, predictable, overlong and occasionally annoying.
A sentimental soap opera well-enough executed to push all the right emotional buttons!
Female body image police beware, the Queen is turning things around on the big screen and in a big way, for a beauty's only skinny deep change. And as opposed to the standard scrawny and hollow bimbo babe assembly line in movies.
...a superior romantic comedy...
Enjoyable, but one of those abrupt endings that I hate.

Pretty standard romance movie. The acting isn't great, but i've seen worse. I usually don't like queen latifah, but she was decent here.
