Justice League of America Cast Revealed?

AICN and IESB spill a few beans.

The cast of George Miller's Justice League of America is expected to be announced next week -- but why wait for official news when you can have the rumors right now?

IGN Movies reports that both Ain't It Cool News and IESB have confirmed the involvement of Adam Brody, Common, Teresa Palmer, and Scott Porter, all of whom were previously rumored to be up for roles in JLA. From the article:

Brody is said to be playing Wally West, a.k.a. The Flash, opposite Common as John Stewart, the Green Lantern.

IESB says that, contrary to earlier reports, Palmer is not going to play Wonder Woman but rather one of the film's villains, Talia Al Ghul. Talia is the daughter of Ra's Al Ghul, portrayed by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins.

AICN claims Porter might be playing Superman, but IESB counters by saying, "our sources are telling us that he was up for the role of The Flash against Adam Brody and obviously Brody won out, we've heard nothing about him being cast as Superman."

IGN also notes that AICN is reporting that Michael Gough -- the actor who portrayed Bruce Wayne's butler, Alfred, in the Batman films directed by Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher -- might be reprising his role for JLA. Ah, there's that nod to tradition that fans have been clamoring for.

Uh, no.

The Black Green Lantern.

And this has all the ear-marks of a fantastically, historically, dare-I-say-it MASTERFULLY horrible movie-

>Rushed script to beat the strike, check
>Smell of Corporate lack-of-understanding as to source material, check
>frenzied attempt to cast quasi-celebrities or people who will bring 'name' to this movie, check
>re-casting of two pivotal roles (BM & SM), right when that will cause confusion, check
>Did I mention the lack of understanding/giving a righteous F#ckall as to the source material?, Check (say it with me: JLA IS NOT A NATURAL TEAM, ALA THE X-MEN OR FANTASTIC FOUR. THIS MOVIE WOULD HAVE TO BE FOUR HOURS LONG TO DO CREDIT TO ORIGINS AND STORY)

Hey, I would LOVE to be wrong about this and I vow, here and now, to sing the praises of this movie in whatever language people want if it's a good movie, but This looks like a monstrous disaster. I would be sublimely HAPPY to be wrong.

It's not Jon Stewart from Daily Show. See, he spell's his name "Jon" not "John".

I do not have high hopes for this movie. Why do I smell a Joel " I killed Batman" Schumacher film. It will be directed to the kiddies and the hole movie will reak of toy promotions.

I looked it up. Michael Gough was born in 1914 according to IMDB. Who would work as a butler at 93 years old?

seriously? yes, the green lantern is the the same guy who hosts the daily show.

I agree with all your points Tombstonelowdog. I think the biggest points are the recasting of batman and superman as well as the "it's not xmen."

I'm very ok with them recasting batman and superman. I think those franchises should remain by themselves and it seems like the people behind the JLA movie have no clue what they're talking about. So to see Christian Bale outside of the Nolan world would be extremely awkward. So recast away, i say!

It's not xmen. This is probably the biggest point. It's going to be a disaster. My guess is probably a 12% on the RT rating. Too many characters, too little time.

And the kid they got playing batman is friggin 21 years old. Oh man this is going to be bad.

Oh my God! Are you freaks all retarded? John Stewart is the Green Lantern's real name. It's not the guy from the Daily Show. If you learn to read, you'd see that it very clearly says, "Common as John Stewart, aka the Green Lantern."

And for those of you complaining about a black Green Lantern - he's been a black man in the comics since the 80's.

Present Day - WB and DC rush forward on a JLA movie , They disrupt and ignore the excellent ground work layed by Batman Begins and Superman Returns , they rush a script , fast track pre production , throw 150 million into the pot and then cast the movie with a bunch of Tv "stars" that are just way and i mean WAY to young to portray the JLA in a way that would have consistancy with the comics .

Fall/winter 2008 - A teaser trailer is released and it looks good from the 90 seconds it shows off glimpses of action and the heros and has dramtic music that makes us watch in amazment...

Summer 2009 - JLA receives a pathectic 24% on the tomatometer and that was being generous because the movie has some good CGI and does entertain kids ...

Opening Night 2009 - The entire geek and nerd population flocks to the theaters to see this even if it has received low reviews cuz sometimes critics just dont get our Nerd Films .

Opening Night 2009 , 2 hours later - Everyone leaves the theatre in disgust , complaining that the story was absurd and the plot was forced , the JLA would never interact like that together , Batman was horrible in this , Superman was so under used, and that the acting was so over the top cheesy and campy that they had ruined the JLA forever...

Opening Night 2009 , 2 hours 20 mins later - Rotten Tomatoes servers crash due the overwhelming amount of geeks , nerds and fanboys that all create forums out of pure hate for the JLA movie. The Director , writers , actors , the plot , the characters all are beaten to a bloodied pulp by the spitful posts of hundreds of upset fans ...

1 weeks later - The totals for the weekend box office comes in The JLA movies has made 100 million dollars despite being a flaming piece of dog crap. The WB imeadiatly green lights back to back sequels aswell as spin offs for every character not named Batman or Superman...

Winter 2009 - The DVD comes out and makes another 50 million cuz this movie is on every 10-14 years olds christmas list ...

May 2011 - The sequel hits theaters

Aug 2011 - The second sequel hit theaters

Summer 2013 - The Flash movie drops and flops

Fall 2013 - Green Lantern Movie drops and flops

Summer 2014 - Wonder Woman movie drops and you guessed it , flops

Sometime in 2020 - WB and DC finally realize they have made a huge mistake by rushing the JLA back in good ole 2007, It has become the laughing stock of the entire comic book nation and has forvever ruined the characters and prestige of the JLA .

10 Mins later - It is announced WB and DC will be doing a full re-boot of the JLA !!!

THE END ...

This look into the future has been brought to you by common sense ...

That is one of the funniest, yet tasteful and thought out replies I have read in a long, long time.

I really hope the movie could be good, but yeah it's probably gonna be a bomb...Although I think Common could really surprise you playing the Lantern man. That was the only thing about that that gave me hope...Adam Brody will be over the top and lame like he was in his bit in Thank You For Not Smoking..AKA SuckAssss.

its so funny, I agree w/ evrything you guys are saying, and you're doing it in a fun and intelligent manner. But I posted the same worries and disappontment on 'imdbpro', and holy **** was i met with a wave of hate! There is a large group over there who love the idea of this JLA project, & defend it agressively. Of course they were also citing: X3, SM3 & both FF movies successful examples of 'multi-superbeing' movies!

I can't say I know enough about the warning signs to predict this one, but wasn't the JLA origin successfully re-invented for its cartoon series? Or no? I'm sincerely asking. I just assumed it was -- the same way Venom's origin was re-invented for TV and film. It seemed like the one thing people *didn't* find onerous about the Venom arc in Spider-Man 3 was that Venom was depicted as coming to Earth via meteor, and not as a result of Spidey's participation in the Secret Wars -- which would have been virtually impossible to fit into the Raimi films.

I think it's kind of fun that Superman and Batman will be recast. After all, they are sort of "re-cast" every time a new artist illustrates them in the comics. I like the parallel.

I'm curious to see how this one turns out. We had to go through the Burton-Schumacher Batmen before we got "Batman Begins." We got X-Men and X2, but we also got Elektra, Daredevil, Ghost Rider; we got Superman and Superman 2, but then Superman 3, Superman 4, and the essentially innocuous Superman Returns. And the FF's. But some people liked The Punisher, right?

But despite the numerous projects relegated to B-List status, it seems like comic adaptations -- particularly certain ones -- have defined, at least for the moment, a category of respectable Hollywood genre fare alongside of the rom-com, the twisty-turny thriller, and so on. It's hard for me to imagine that they will take three wholly mainstream, key characters -- BM, SM, and WW -- and an otherwise fairly well-known franchise and make a complete turkey out of it.

If they do, I tend to agree with Gimy that it may well be a marvelous disaster, a sight worth seeing, like rubber-necking a spectacular multi-car pile-up.

God. A big reason the cartoon Justice League worked is because the creators had already spent years building a canon for Batman, Superman and many of the other characters. This is Hollywood hack bull****.

I have yet to see either of the Fantastic 4 movies and judging by all the negative reports on JLA, it's looking like I'll end up giving that a pass as well. If they're going to screw this up, why not animate it instead and get the Family Guy cast involved and bring back Adam West as Batman, have Lois play Wonder Woman, and give the Superman role to Quagmire - Giggity Giggityy Goo!

there are so many things going against this movie, especially with all the writers strike stuff going on, that it will be a miracle if the plot makes coherent sense.

you have to cast older actors at least for superman and batman, and they have to be somewhat marquee names. when i say older, i dont mean 45, i mean something like 28 or at least 27. these kids can barely drink legally! did they learn nothing from the kate bosworth as pulitzer prize winning mother of a five year old lois lane? cant they throw us a bone with ryan gosling as batman, or josh hartnett as superman. (note: i hate josh hartnett, but his casting would at least indicate some semblance of competence)

ideally, i would have cast this movie thusly:

superman: gerard butler
batman: joaquin phoenix
wonderwoman: evangiline lilly from lost (although this megan gale person has the look, but she probably cant act for ****)
flash: ryan renolds
jon stewart JL: jamie foxx
aquaman: matthew mcconaghy (think reign of fire)

sure, this cast is pretty much impossible ( A listers like phoenix, foxx, and mcconaughy especially), but if they had cast at least superman and batman with real men, not boys, then that would make it easier to handle a 18 year old flash, non actress wonderwoman, and common as GL. but with superboy and batboy... the whole thing just falls apart. if they are casting this young for JLA, how young are they going to cast for teen titans, 3 and 4 year olds?

that being said, alot of times, when a movie bombs people blame the actors. in this case, i refuse to blame the actors, no matter how bad they might be. if you are a 21 year old nobody, and somebody offers you a batman role in a 150 mil$ movie, you'd be an idiot to turn it down. im blaming warners and george miller.

i hope the strike kills this current incarnation of JLA. i can handle discontinuity issues as long as they make a good movie, but so far, nothing about this movie sounds good. all ive heard is that the script is excellent (and from the small spoilers ive read online, it seems like a solid premise for the movie), but even that is in jeopardy with the strike going on. superhero movies arent going anywhere warners, wait until the strike is over, regroup, and then give us a decent movie. you rebooted the batman and superman franchises very well (superman less so than batman, but it was alright) despite it being developmental hell (both franchises had many directors and scripts before singer and nolan came on). wait on this movie and do it right, and you will have a blockbuster franchise. do it in the current incarnation, and you are sending all your superhero movies to hell, strapped to a nuclear bomb...
