Jay Baruchel to Play Justice League Villain?
Thus sayeth Kevin Spacey's minions.
by Jeff Giles | December 14, 2007
Discuss Article
We've had months of heated speculation about who might be starring as the costumed crimefighters in George Miller's Justice League of America. But what about the bad guy?

According to IGN Movies, the JLA heavy just might be played by Knocked Up's Jay Baruchel:

The face of a supervillain?

The rumor was started by TriggerStreet.com, a site affiliated with Kevin Spacey's production company, which reported that Baruchel ankled another film (DreamWorks' She's Out of My League) to take the JLA part.

Just which villain Baruchel would play remains a mystery, but as IGN notes, the film's central bad guy is said to be amoral business magnate Maxwell Lord. What do you say, JLA fans?

If they use someone as lame as Maxwell Lord, then they should go with Sam Neil.

The only character I could see him playing is the Joker pre-accident. Also, at some point they should stop leaking anything about this movie. It just seem to look worse and worse. Made for television, late Saturday or early Sunday showing, no cult following bad.

Holy crap, the casting for this film has been underwhelming to say the least. With every new unknown actor attached to this film, it confirms that this will be the biggest disappointment ever. Horrible.

I can't see this guy as a maxwell lord, but maybe a younger version of Shade. I was optomistic for awhile about this, but with all of these casting announcements and actors that don't fit the characters, this is quickly ending up like the next bad comic book adaption.

oh sweet lord, everytime i check up on this...it gets better and better. ONLY way this would be any more of a horrible idea...is if jessica simpson or her sister gets cast. this flick absolutely WREAKS of "it sounded like a good idea at the time" syndrome. if this isn't a comedy and they try to be serious...phew, this could really compete with Catwoman and Ghost Rider in worst attempt at a comic book movie...ever. i can't wait to hear comic nerds screaming in anger at how bad this turns out...

I'm actually starting to be fascinated by this project; every time they make an announcement, they re-define the boundaries of how bad a movie can possibly sound. I'm starting to think this whole thing is a goof and they're enjoying our squirming as they make fake announcements. Next Months' RT headlines:

>"George Miller Interview: Justice League Final Battle to take Place in Ewok village"
>"Heroic team up! Danny Elfman is joined by Bjork on the musical score on the new Justice League movie!"
>"Chris Tucker AND Dakota Fanning in final talks to join JLA cast as Wonder Twins?"

Come on people do you remember all the noise and fury about............
-Michael Keaton as Batman? (in my humble opinion, he was the best, closely followed by Kilmer)
-Tobey Macguire as Spiderman?
-William Daefoe as the Green Goblin?

I say, wait until it comes out - and then start making noise.

OK, of COURSE this movie is going to blow monkey rectum, but let's take a step back, WB execs, do we really even need a villain? What about a faceless terrorist regime? What about some armageddon-style cosmic disaster to be averted? Have we considered the absence of a personified evil force a feasible and potentially good thing?

If they're going to make this travesty of a movie, they should just go with an alien threat. White Martians like they did in the first Justice League cartoons.

Leave the important DC villains alone for more competent directors to handle for the true DC movies. Especially stay away from Superman's rogues gallery. I want Brainiac in 'Man of Steel' and then complete a 'Singer trilogy' with Darkseid and Doomsday.

So let me get this straight; Superman gets Kevin Spacey, Batman has Heath Ledger, the X-Men went with Ian McKellen, and Spider-Man faced off with the likes of Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina.

But the main villian of Justice League is...Danger Barch. Wonderful.

I agree with all the complaints about the casting. Before the announcements i was excited but now..... no. I understand the argument that we should wait until we see the movie, but the fundamental flaw with the casting is not necessairly the ators but how YOUNG they are. I looked up the guy rumored to play superman and hes 21! Thats how old i am. Its also at least 5 years younger than tom welling and about how old pre-superman clark kent is on smallville. Unless this is supposed to be "Justics League Babies" I dont see this working.

Let's see...

So all we have are rumors, rumors, and MORE rumors...

Nothing CONFIRMED?

I swear, everyone's getting worked up for a movie that hasn't even approved to go forward.
