Bryan Singer, Brandon Routh Leaving Superman Returns Sequel?
Summary
Depending on what week it is, and which rumor you believe, Bryan Singer has either spent the last year and a half preparing to buckle down and get to work on the sequel to Superman Returns, or he's continually put it off in favor of other projects. Well, now we can add a new rumor to the list: Singer won't be directing the sequel at all. Back to Article

He was given the torch by both Christopher Reeve and Dean Cain to be the next Superman. Give the part to him! Correct the error! If they can do it for Hulk, why not Superman? (Reply to this) |

It's a bad idea, they're rushing it out too fast, and it'll interfere with the Batman and Superman franchises. Glad to see just about everyone here agrees, although it's alarming to see how much support there is for this movie on other forums. I don't even want to see it get made and then fail. I hope it gets canned before it has a chance to fail. As for Tom Welling, I like Smallville but I think it would be a bad idea to cast him as SuperMAN. Tom Welling, even though he's older than Brandon Routh, will always be known to too many people as a teenage/early 20s Clark Kent. That's why I don't think it will work, no matter how old Tom Welling is. As for the Superman Returns sequel, I really hope Routh is still part of this movie. I thought his Superman portrayal was awesome, and his Clark Kent good enough. As for Singer, I would like to see him finish what he started. Even though it's been beat to death here, I agree with those who see this movie as a foundation that created opportunities for sequels. I understand that people didn't like the whole I liked Superman Returns and thought it had enough action, mostly because I liked the other character-related stuff that was going on too, but I would like to see some different kinds of action in the sequel, in addition to Superman saving people and stopping criminals. I hope they bring in a different, more powerful villain (no more Lex Luthor kryptonite real estate schemes), and I want to see Superman's angry side, like super-pissed-off angry side, rather than his emotional vulnerable side. And I want it to be its own movie. Returns was a great homage to the Donner film and had a lot of cool tid-bits from the 1978 movie (like the krytonite meteor being from Ethiopia for example), but now that's over and they can make something new.
