Justice League of America Defeated by Writers' Strike
Production apparently on indefinite hold...for now.
by Jeff Giles | January 17, 2008
Discuss Article
After months of wild gossip, hundreds of anguished forum posts, and one writer's strike, it's come to this: Warner Bros. has apparently put George Miller's Justice League of America on ice.

And no, we aren't talking about "ice" as in a touring show on skates -- although that wouldn't be the strangest JLA rumor we've heard. We're talking about "on hold indefinitely."

That's the word from IESB, where "a call from our trusted source in Australia" confirmed the rumors that had been making the rounds since last week. According to IESB's source -- identified as "a crew member working directly on the production team" -- Justice League is in limbo at least until the writers' strike is over. It hasn't been completely canceled, but the production team has decided to serve the crew with one-week notices.

Depending on which set of rumors you believe, JLA was either being fast-tracked or waiting for its official greenlight, so there may not be any reason to expect immediate official confirmation from Warner Bros. -- but IESB's sources have proven to be pretty reliable where Justice League is concerned, so after applying the usual caveats (it's only a rumor, etc.), we'd pretty much rule out seeing this thing in theaters anytime soon.

UPDATE: Both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter are confirming IESB's report -- click on the links below for more!

Come on everyone ..... Cancel it! ....... Cancel it! .... Cancel it! ...... Cancel it!

I'd rather go see "JLA on Ice" than the live action garbage that they're trying to push out.

I knew Brainiac and Lex Luthor were behind the Writers Strike. That's why no one dares to cross the picket line. Bizarro and Solomon Grundy ain't havin' it.

I would only watch JL if it had the exact same cast as Oceans Eleven. Just throw some costumes on em and turn the camera's on... then sit back and watch the magic unfold. And no, Clooney would not be allowed near Batman. He would be Martian Manhunter. Cheadle would be Batman. Bernie Mac as Superman. The rest is a toss up, free for all, whoever shows up to the set first gets first pick of which superhero they want to be. It's gold! Who needs writers with ideas like this!

Note: Dear Hollywood, this is a sample of my ideas. This ones a freebie, but the rest are gonna cost you big. Get in line. Next up is a 3D remake of My Dinner With Andre... did that wet your appetite? Thought so.

Don't worry guys, Justice League at this point is pretty much dead. I remember Warner Bros. telling everyone that Wolfgang Peterson's Batman vs. Superman project was "indefinitely postponed" as well, and look at what happened to that.

I honestly didn't know how they were going to pull that movie off anyways. I don't mind it being canned. But I am concerned that if this strike continues, sooner or later they're going to can something that people actually care about.

Yeah, hadn't seen one intelligent thought from the moguls on this one 'til this announcement. Better to leave this DOA and come back when you can Frankenstein together something that at least RESEMBLES a good idea...

I'm not into JL. and didn't somebody say motioncapture... or was that just a rumor? I don't want moving wax-maniquins acting. they CAN'T! But i think JL is far from dead. Halo was considered DEAD, now we have interest in the project and things are back on track.
