Ryan Reynolds to Play Flash After All?
But who will play Booster Gold?
by Jeff Giles | August 21, 2007
Discuss Article
Anyone who was heartbroken when the Ryan Reynolds-led Flash movie appeared to break down awhile back will read this item with great interest: According to an MTV Movies report, we might get to see Reynolds wear a lightning bolt on his chest after all.

The latest talk -- sparked by comments Reynolds made to MTV's Shawn Adler -- springs from recent reports of Warner Bros.' planned Justice League of America adaptation, a project which would presumably feature the Flash. Questions of Reynolds' involvement in JLA, as well as questions of a Flash spinoff, are only natural -- and Reynolds was perfectly forthcoming, telling MTV:

"'The Flash' isn't dead at all. There's talk of it being a JLA movie, the Justice League having them all together. And then there's other talk of doing a 'Flash' movie with [director] Shawn Levy."

Given that we're hearing reports of a mad dash toward production on JLA, it seems reasonable to expect that any solo Flash projects will come later on, something Reynolds seems to agree with. From the article:

When asked if he thought the JLA film might happen first, Reynolds told us, "[it] might, yeah. I don't really know how much I'm allowed to talk about that stuff. But I'm sure they'll figure out something. It's no secret that they have a JLA script and it's a project that's in development -- the contents of which, who knows. We'll see."

The only problem I see with Reynolds playing the Flash is supposedly the JLA script has Barry Allen as the Flash, and to me, I see Ryan Reynolds as more of the Wally West type.

Reynolds does nothing for me as Flash. I'll wait-and-see, but I don't see how Reynolds would excite anyone in this type of role.

so, if you crank out a slew of terrible family friendly comedies you somehow earn the right to direct a famous superhero franchise? this is almost worse than getting the guy who directed 'Taxi' to do the Fantastic 4 movies. while we're at it, let's have David Cronenberg direct Cheaper by the Dozen 3.

A Flash movie, I can see it working because I used to love to watch the old series and a physcial live action Flash was awesome to see but a JLA movie?? There's no way that'll work unless its a low budget animated film that comes directly to DVD. A JLA movie would be the one worst things Hollywood can do to movies in general let alone ruin the comic books.

The Flash movie will be really bad no matter who plays him, but Reynolds just makes it that much more lame.

I disagree. Flash could be a great movie, with the right crew and cast and writing. That's what all movies boil down to, and this one is no different. The only problem I see is coming up with a story good enough that it would be engaging for the entire two hours. I would think Flash would work better in an ensemble movie.

Ryan Reynolds has been my #1 choice to play the Flash ever since I saw the Justice League tv series. I love how they portray Wally West in that show, a guy without much experience and a fratboy attitude who doesn't really realize how serious the job actually is, and I think Reynolds would pull that off perfectly.

Also, Booster Gold? Why the hell not?

Ryan Reynolds as Flash? Meh, I'll just watch one of his old movies on fast-forward. Wait a minute...I don't own any Ryan Reynolds movies.

I agree with Man of Stee1, Ryan Reynolds is perfect for a Wally West Flash. Pull it off just like the Justice League cartoon (sidenote: Flash in the cartoon is voiced by Smallville's Lex Luthor). Flash should be somewhat goofy and, completely different from every other hero movie out there, actually trying to capitalize on his powers for fame, fortune, and girls. (okay the Human Torch is kinda like that too, but that's how I see the Flash).

Bummer,I was hopnig for Ryan Gosling to play the flash. Reynolds better be doing the Barry Allen Flash, because he would suck as Barry Allen

If you make it more comedic, then Ryan Reynolds is your man. However, I would prefer it doesn't get made at all. None of these comic book movies being considered sound like good ideas.

Every time I think an actor would make a good or bad Flash, I change my mind. I'd rather see stuff in production than just speculate at this point.

I'm not sure how I feel about a JLA movie being the "springboard" for more franchises... especially if the actors do not want to commit to lengthy contracts.
Plus having Bale as Batman and Routh as Superman, might be a bit visually odd. Unless Routh has bulked up more and the Bat-costume gets sleeker.

i dont see ryan reynolds playing a super hero, but then maybe that's just typecasting. it's just the flash, so who cares if it's good or not. i say give ryan a chance to do something different.

My question is who the hell is going to be the villain to go against JLA? Super man who is already a god that has unlimited powers, then u have batman, flash, wonder woman. Dude, where are they going to find strong enough villain or villains to handle these supers?

That's why you have a league of supervillains! Then you can add in more famous actors to duke it out with the ones playing the good guys! Brainiac FTW!

A Flash movie would be GREAT...if I was 12 years old and geek who spent most of his time reading comic books and playing video games. Thankfully, I am neither. That said, this is a dumb idea and Ryan Reynolds is far too talented to be doing this. Has anyone here seen The Nines? Reynolds is a far better actor than he has been able to show thus far. This reminds me of the morons who complained about Michael Keaton being cast as Batman, or Daniel Craig being cast as James Bond. Go back to your parent's basement people.
