But when his wife passed away, he turned into a real workaholic. This meant spending less time with his daughter, Shalini (Rani Mukerjee) who is quite intelligent like her father with a very feminist attitude. Jai Varma (Shah Rukh Khan) is a neurotic accountant working for Sharma Limited. One day he comes across a woman, changing him into the cool, womanizing, aggressive Michael. He starts living two different lives, one in the name of Jai and another in the name of Michael. Anand Bakshi (Abhishek Bachchan) is a journalist. New in his profession, he is on the lookout for an interesting story to make his mark into journalism. When he bumps into Jai/Michael, Anand finds what he is looking for to reach the top. The film focuses on the romance between Jai and Shalini who are already married to different partners. They are both so engrossed in life's day to day domestic rituals that they are convinced that this is their happiness. But Jai and Shalini still yearn for something deeper and more meaningful. So when these two people meet that's exactly what they find in each other. From a relationship starting off on pleasant terms, these two characters slowly begin to develop a liking for each other. When their feelings come to the fore, what results is a collision of lives and emotions, affecting everyone involved and changing them forever. -- © Yash Raj Films [More]

At over three hours long it's left to the lighter comic moments, provided by Amitabh Bachchan as an outrageously flirtatious pensioner, to keep the momentum going.

For a good part of his run time, Johar succeeds in crafting something genuinely absorbing and fairly uncompromising--which makes it all the more disappointing when he ultimately succumbs to his more formulaic candyfloss instincts.

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (Never Say Goodbye) contains set pieces so spine-chillingly effective that people may still be talking about them 20 years from now.

Generally good but works better in bits than as a whole.

A film that's clearly out to raise eyebrows, even as it provides all the over-the-top spectacle that mainstream Indian cinema is famous for.

It's sad as all hell at times, you bet, but it can also be riotously funny and the musical numbers are pure unadulterated joy.

For something so silly and so long, however, the film is surprisingly engaging, thanks largely to its very watchable actors; it’s easy to see why they are international stars in the world of Hindi films.
