Movie Info

In 1979, rising star Kate Bush, a 20-year-old British singer/songwriter, embarked on the Tour of Life, her first and only concert series to date. Sold out for its entire European run, the show featured material from the artist's first two albums, The Kick Inside and Lionheart, both released in 1978. Although the entire two-and-a half-hour show was recorded on its penultimate date -- May 13, 1979 -- at London's Hammersmith Odeon, technical difficulties forced the scrapping of much of the footage.

Audience Reviews for Kate Bush - Live at Hammersmith Odeon

Kate Bush, easily one of modern music's most influential female pioneers even while being relatively unknown in the US, performed a full stage production concert of her self composed music complete with wireless microphones and self choreographed numbers in 1979 at about 20 years of age and did so years before the big choreographed stage productions of Madonna, Michael Jackson and other artists of the 1980's. Signed to the EMI label at age 16 after being "discovered" by Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, she became the first woman to have a UK number-one with a self-written song at just 19. This video of her live performance at Hammersmith Odeon, unfortunately not yet available on DVD, showcases Kate's unique vocal, musical and dancing talents along with her complex musical arrangements that are truly for those who appreciate the cutting edge in music. Even now, more than 30 years later, her ethereal voice, deep, haunting lyrics, complex counter rhythms and syncopations sweep away the wasteland of over produced, mediocre talent, prepackaged, music industry marketing creations of today to remind us of a time when it took much more than just being able to carry a tune to be the cutting edge of music.
