You could do far worse at the multiplex this weekend than Killers, a modestly pitched rom-com actioner that outdoes most of the competition on compulsive watchability alone.
Looks like they waited 3 days before resorting to bribery.

"outdoes most of the competition on compulsive watchability alone"Is that supposed to both make sense and be a compliment or is it supposed to be a statement which vaguely reads as a compliment while actually being meaningless nonsense. 'Compulsive' means an irrational needs and/or desire to do something. Are you recommending (or, more accurately, making a social observation about your audience's lack of intelligent self-control) that people see this dreck because, well, who can resist it? As well, starting with "you could do far worse" is in and of itself an admission of failure for a film. That is, you weigh its worth from the get-go not by the films merits upon the screen but against the crop of other films you've casually deemed less worthy of "compulsive" viewing. As well, there is no such thing as "borderline thoughtful". Being thoughtful is an all or nothing proposition. It would be best to just leave the sentiment out of your review all together. That is, don't mention thoughtfulness at all if its missing from the film and you value it in films but, nonetheless, mean to recommend the film (as you have done). You go on to say "hardly a misfire" about a film which you have said "paint-by-numbers filmmaking scrubbed clean of even the slightest whiff of creativity" and "an unfortunately banal foundation". Finally, whatever your motivation (as it's certainly not any critical legitimacy you seek) for haphazardly ripping on a film while ultimately telling your readers to spend their $10.00 on it, don't insult a wonderful film like History of Violence with a mention in your sophomoric review. Just stick to your contradictory sentiments and conflicted observations to do the dirty work of supporting this uninspired, mindless and derivative entertainment headlined by at least one person with less talent and range than a cigar-store Indian.
