Startled at first, Rhodes becomes occupied with other things when his publisher calls and gives him a deadline for his new book along with the number of a criminologist to use for research. When he calls, the criminologist (Rooney) begins to describe a new case that happens to be identical to the one in Rhodes' first novel.
