People just don't appreciate arthouse films anymore.

I blame the marketing. Your avatar of Drive is a perfect example. Great film, succumb to criticism by audiences who expected a more action-heavy movie based on it's ads. I don't blame them, honestly. I'm not a big fan of misleading ad campaigns.
