Chow Puts His Second "Hustle" on Hold
by Scott Weinberg | April 18, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Asian Cinema site MonkeyPeaches.com reports some good news and some bad: The good news is that there will be a Kung Fu Hustle sequel some time in the future. The bad news is that writer/director Stephen Chow has put Hustle 2 on the back burner for the time being so he can work on a movie that involves kids and rockets.

Says MonkeyPeaches: " During a promotional event yesterday in Shanghai, Stephen Chow said he would postpone the production of Kung Fu Hustle sequel to have more time to polish the story and he would do another project first. This untitled project will involve a lot of kid actors and according to an earlier report, Chow will play an astronaut somehow falls in love with a girl in space. Casting and location scouting have already began for the new project. No further details have been given."

This could be a good or bad thing. On the one side a sequel to Kung Fu Hustle might be good. Then again why make a sequel to such a great movie in the first place? The results usually are painful.

I'd rather gamble on what he has to offer next. It's original and the premise seems kind of quirky.

The good news is that Chow put his creativity ahead of money by not making a sure bet sequel right away. I agree with Vitamin M, he's a genius, but he's also one who's destined for movie greatness. I think that Chow is the most interesting and most promising new filmmaker to come along since Tarantino.

win-win situation. I now know that Kung Fu Hustle has a sequel, and tha Stephen Chow is doing another cool movie.
