Critic Review - USA Today

Everything that happens in this dull tale of Po, a paunchy panda who becomes a zealous kung fu fighter, is telegraphed well in advance.

I don't get this review. And after seeing the movie, this review makes even less sense.

*EVERYTHING* that happens? most movies are predictable. its the ride that makes them entertaining.

I have an 11 year old that thought the movie was great. I too enjoyed the movie. I think the major problem with most critics is they are judging movies against the same high ideals that the Oscars are judged. But truth be told, most people don't hold films to that standard.

This woman's review is so unjustified it makes you wonder if she has an agenda. I'd be interested in knowing what her other reviews of Dreamworks pictures are like. Or if she has something against the screenwriter or the director or someone closely connected to the picture.

This reviewer actually comes off as scorned - as if someone didn't pay her off or something. It's that stupid of a review.

Here's a quick recap of her review, and see if you can figure out what she's talking about:
- She claims the storytelling is poor, and calls the story "boring", yet never provides an substantive proof to support her opinion. She just calls it boring, predictable, and poor. That's it.
Even if you want to call the story unimaginative - who give a damn? The movie's going to delight and amuse millions and the studio's going to rake in money by the bag full. And why? Because it's ENTERTAINING.
- She rants about how the big talent voice actors used in the picture (Jack Black, Lucy Liu, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, etc.) don't get to apply any depth to their characters and asks "why bother having such actors? Never once does she suppose that maybe these actors WANTED to be part of the picture? Never once does she consider that the writing and the story properly downplays the lesser characters and focuses the story on Black & Hoffman for most of the movie.

Here's a newsflash, Claudia: Most movies - especially animated ones end with the bad guys losing, and the good guys winning. Style points are awards by how the result is achieved and whether the audience finds it a compelling watch.

Judging by box office sales, by other RT reviews, and by this reviewer's personal observations, it seems your opinion is closer aligned to that of a jaded, arrogant aristocrat, more interested in nuance than the big picture. I don't think you speak for the common citizen and you certainly don't speak for me.

In the memory of the great Gene Siskel - whom I feel was the ultimate common man's reviewer, Kung Fu Panda is a 'thumbs up' - way up.

i'm sorry but i too found kung fu panda boring and dull, it doesn't have the same spark as shrek 1 and 2, it's more like shrek 3 (but shrek3 is better).lol. im not making any sense am i?

Why does everyone compare animated films to shrek? It's hardly the most amazing animated film ever, I've seen better. And they have nothing in relation anyway! Two completely different movies. Stop going in to watch movies with other ones in mind. Don't go in with expectations just watch the damn film!
