  • The "Sons of the Desert" Laurel & Hardy Appreciation Society teamed up with actor and Oliver Hardy impersonator Chuck McCann in the late 1960s to create an "all-talking" version of the silent "Double Whoopee." Using lip-readers to determine exactly what the actors had said as the camera was turning, McCann delivered all of these lines in whatever voice was appropriate--which was put together with a fantastic assortment of precise sound effects and wrapped up in a marvelous, toe-tapping 1920s danceband music score.
