A preposterous exercise in high-minded brutality, "Law Abiding Citizen" tries to pass itself off as a dialectic on justice betrayed, but instead plays like a snuff film with our nation's legal system as the victim.
Reason: Yea, from loss of blood, not from loss of memory; which was firmly intact.
Admit it, it was his lawyer (Foxx) that screwed up. Did we not just execute an alleged killer who by all evidence appeared to be innocent? Yea, our justice system is fine. So we kill an innocent person here and there, once in a while. What's there to complain about?
Yep pretty much it is okay to do that, especially in a movie. Mankind is guilty of the real fact in every war get off your stupid high horse.
The bad guy is in the movie making a statement - he is still the bad guy of course. But you seem to miss the point - when making a political statement innocent people die. Why is that you ask ? It is simple innocent people must learn not to support corrupt systems. During WW2 NAZIS where Germans and Innocent Germans supported NAZIS.
The whole point was to prove how completely corrupt the justice system is. Best part? It's only going to get worse. And people just sit back and watch our country crash and burn. That's why this movie was so refreshing. Yes, (mostly) innocent people were killed, but imagine some junkie killing your wife and daughter. Makes the blind rage pretty darn understandable.
Please, stop going around and trolling every single positive comment about this film. You're entitled to your opinion, I'm entitled to mine. What's the point of going around calling people idiots because they disagree with you? Pretty silly.
By the way, I feel really sorry for anyone who just goes along with what the critics say. I hate to break it to you, but most of the time they're completely off base and arrogant. Example: 25% of critics liked this film vs. 77% of the public. Try having a mind of your own, it can be fun.
The people I'm calling idiots are going around and calling critics idiots. See what I'm getting at? The film's message is twisted. To quote Box Office Prophets: "Butler's plan is the equivalent of trying to fix a crack in a windshield by smashing it with a sledgehammer." If I didn't have a mind of my own, wouldn't I be going along with the public opinion? I'm not a professional critic. Your reasoning is just as confused as this film.
i like this movie, but I'm no idiot. The action was very entertaining I could careless about what it was trying to say or portray, I just liked it for the entertainment. people need to stop trying to read so deep into the movie sometimes.
I love how this greensucks guy reposts his same comments over and over to try and reiterate his obviously bias opinion. You are more trash than you think this movie is.
When these movie critics get a 174 on the LSAT and a 3.9 with two degrees and get into law school then they can fairly criticize a legal movie.(Thats what I did) Ask Natalie Hollaways parents about our legal system and see what they have to say? It's all about the $$$$ and its corrupt. Gerard Butler in this movie plays someone that ingeniously fucks everyone that fucked him and it is epic, if I was his defense attorney this would be my dream case. And to greensucksblues how does the judge, the 2 killers, and the attorneys that made the deal have little to do with the trial, I'm confused? Jordan Van Der Sloot gets freed at Christmas are you buying him a celebatory egg nog douche?
When you're able to dig a complex tunnel load bearing beams and hundreds of lights underneath a prison in 10 years while you're in jail, you can fairly praise this movie. What do members of the legal staff, the officers in the convoy, the mayor, and city officials have to do with the trial? That's who I'm talking about. Again to quote Box Office Prophets: "Butler's plan is the equivalent of trying to fix a crack in a windshield by smashing it with a sledgehammer." Watch 7 Days, that's a far superior revenge film.
alittle late to comment on somthing mounths ago but.... i still want to give my 2cents. I like how the movie sends a message that the legal system is messed up at the same time you cant just kill innocent people to make a point...thats crazy, even tho you feel bad fr what happend to him in the past, his acts in the movie dont justify that
****SPOILER ALERT**** DO NOT READ THIS TILL AFTER YOU WATCHED THE MOVIE IT WILL RUIN IT!!!!*****************
that being said i like the way the movie shows and even says everybody must be held countable for there actions Clides downfall is the resuilt of his need for revenge on the legal system (even if he denies hes in it for revenge, he clearly is) in the end he blows up by his own trap based on his own morals and his own belief (The movie takes a similer greek tragidy style that way, but note by tragedy i meen that the main charicter dies not that im crying he did..) GREAT MOVIE GREAT ENDING.
The movie seems interesting but how misguided are you following others opinion and re-quoting other people's opinion to help formulate your own. This is a movie not a tutorial on how to fix the justice system it is for entertainment purposes, so why do you take it up the ass like people are actually going to kill other people. "Innocent" people are killed by "innocent" people everyday so there is no good or bad people in the world. But you will never understand any of this.
some great law student you are..maybe they didn't teach you jurisdiction or geography but (who gives a f*** about natalie anyway another trumped media driven story to distract from more important issues) aruba has absolutely nothing to do with our legal system last time i checked it was under dutch control ergo your logic is flawed and the movie sucks
Pretty sure you didn't get a 174, didn't get a 3.8 and have no fucking clue, otherwise you would have seen through the nonsense that occurred in this movie, the most egregious of which was the ex parte meeting between the DA, assistant DA and the Judge and the fact he's incarcerated in prison prior to entering a plea.
The fucked up thing about people who think this movie has a great message about how the justice system is broken because the murderer was not caught is that the same people will watch the Green Mile or Dead Man Walking the next week and proclaim the justice system is broken because it is too harsh, the police have too much power and innocent people are locked up and the death penalty is wrong, etc., etc.
Well, which one is it? The answer is neither because our justice system attempts to strike the balance between liberty and security in a world populated by the corrupt and dishonest, who are on both sides of the law. These same people fail to grasp the reality that too ensure no innocent is ever punished, many guilty must go free and to ensure that no guilty go free, many innocents must be punished. This is not due to a broken system. This is due to the fact that it is a system that has to deal with human nature.

So our legal system isn't broken?
Foxx: "You blacked out."
Reason: Yea, from loss of blood, not from loss of memory; which was firmly intact.

Yeah, a bad guy who kills innocent people. That's totally someone you should stand by.

So it's alright to kill people who had very little to do with the trial?
