The plot goes nowhere, but under the pornographic circumstances Figgis, Cage, and Shue all do fine jobs. [More]

The plot goes nowhere because there isn't one to begin with, other than a man who wants to drink himself to death (I wish more people would do this). Despite good acting and cinematography, there lacks an exposition (unless you think Cage dancing in a store and flipping booze into a cart counts), no real character development, and absolutely no reason for the audience to care or be surprised when Nicolas Cage dies at the end. So the question is, was this supposed to be a comedy? It certainly is not a drama, since we garner no empathy from the characters and their actions.
