IGN Debuts Zelda Movie Trailer
RT suggests you look at today's date but enjoy the spectacle anyway.
Placing a drawing pin on a colleague's seat, making a prank call, wearing a funny wig, informing a friend their entire family has perished in an accident - all classic April Fool's Day gags. But producing a high-budget action-packed CG-heavy trailer for a movie version of The Legend of Zelda? That's a whole new level of commitment.
Kudos, then, to our friends at IGN.com, for we wonder if they've done just that - putting out a call for actors with green vests, long hair and pointy ears (possibly) and creating from scratch a full-length trailer for an imagined Zelda movie. We'd be surprised to learn that IGN had entered the motion picture production business, but the trailer is so convincing that we've found ourselves constantly checking the date in our diaries as well as the release date touted on the trailer - April 1st 2009 - and wondering if it's not just strange timing...
The Legend of Zelda franchise, which began in 1986 with Shigeru Miyamoto's classic videogame, has spawned an animated series and a short-lived line of comics, but a movie version has never been forthcoming despite much fan speculation.
Until that changes this trailer is a suitable substitute, and, it's worth pointing out, probably better than anything Uwe Boll could do with the franchise... So is this the real thing? Check it out now and make up your own minds!

JBrick2334 writes: on Apr 01 2008 05:25 AM There is no way this is real, how is it the first news on this movie that i've ever seen on this sight is the trailer?? and it just so happens to be the 1st of april, not to mention the effects mostly looked like crap...mostly. And if this is real I will be so p!ssed, that guy looks way too old to be playing link, as I remember link was a little kid and then became a teenager. this guy didnt change at all when he went to the future or past or when ever he went. Joe Utichi writes: on Apr 01 2008 06:37 AM Hey, maybe I'm wrong, maybe it's real. Those dudes write epic amounts of content every year, produce hours and hours of video, I'm sure producing a feature film would be a walk in the park for them - so perhaps we're just looking at the date and assuming a gag. If it's not they've kept it mighty quiet from us... (Reply to this) |

minderbinder writes: on Apr 01 2008 09:01 AM This doesn't spoil it at all, it's still a great trailer even if you know it's an april fool's gag. You can't expect all sites to go along with hoaxes - I'm glad they linked to it otherwise I probably never would have seen it. I wonder how long it took them to shoot and where they found their "castle" location. (Reply to this) |

Rockslide writes: on Apr 01 2008 09:45 AM When they do make a Zelda, it should definitely be a 16-17 year old kid in the lead. That guy in the fake trailer looks more like an Orc than a human-elf. Also Ganon looks a little hillarious. I would hope he would be more like a silent scary huge guy in a real version. (Reply to this) |
