The performances are exceptional, Richard Donner's direction is still good, and the film is always entertaining, if unfocused.

Reviews for Lethal Weapon 4
One could argue about which Lethal Weapon is the best, but No. 4 is certainly the funniest, warmest and most idiosyncratic.
...audiences will laugh and cry and even chew on their fingers during the action sequences.
The relationship/humour stuff in Lethal Weapon 4 is pretty much excruciating, mawkish and inane... The second part of Lethal Weapon 044,the action sequences, are much better.
Explosiva, hilarante, exagerada, llamativa, enredada, cambiante, disfrutable, divertida, muy divertida.
Although Lethal Weapon 4 is certainly the least of the series, it is a fun popcorn experience.
There's no plot worth describing, no repartee wittier than 'Oh shut up,' no acting moments that rise above the level of posing.
While the action interludes are impressively staged and edited, they strain for originality...
...I think the script by television writer Channing Gibson (no relation) is the funniest of them all.
Crass, vulgar, childish, ultraviolent, profane, stupid and appealing to the lowest common denominator of movie audiences. And yet...
Just another buddy movie about a pair of cops trying to get the bad guys so they can go home and relax with their loved ones.
No longer lethal, Detective Riggs is a crotchety middle-aged weapon now
There's all kinds of quirks and tidbits that are worth smiling at, but nothing like the original movies, really.
Gag sequences run on too long, some character scenes end too abruptly, and most of the action is completely redundant.
