A simple story told really well. I?ve seen this style of animation but not in such an extended form. The form is based in colored pencil. Each scene blend into the next the color pallet of the background changes with the scene. Only critical factor are brought out with any degree of simple beautiful clarity. I have only watched disc one and only plan to watch that one I can see how the stories could become preachy except the first one is not. The period of the story is 5 years prior to WWI through just after WWII. The point of access is a young man who lost in the desolation stumbles across the planting man. The story is about a quiet man who has lost his daughter and subsequently his wife to the ravages of desolate lands cleared of trees to fuel France?s need for fire wood. He anonymously goes about his 31 year planting of trees to help himself and the land recover.
