First thing: what's up with all this emotionally manipulative,non-diegetic, "prompt" music every US drama employs? ha ha! (dark chords)hmmm, I feel uneasy because his young daughter is dating a guy whodrives a Camaro. As if I wouldn't feel bad for a teen who was justraped in a Winnebago with Gary Glitter playing in the background! Thefecking accompanying non-diegetic sounds just deaden the impact, itmakes it sort of tacky/exploitive/not subtle/rubbing it in your facelike, "SEE?! SEE?! IT"S BAD HE RAPED HER, DON'T YOU SEE THAT!!" Thankyou, non-diegetic chords, for helping me circumvent my narrow gamut ofemotion. These producers think we're idiots, and, actually, I guess weare-(just go to the Denver Zoo on a free day to confirm it). Thesetypes of shows completely play it safe and tap into every other "safe"clichéd crime drama TV theme that dull folks can veg out to when theyget home from work or the gym and "dont want to think too hard."Second: in LIE TO ME, Tim introduces a male character (Eli), whom hesays, "cannot tell a lie," to a new female employee. Eli tells thewoman, "I'd like to go to bed with you." She goes, "wow. Do you alwaystell the truth?"-(light banter music). This banal shit is about asformulaic as Dean Koontz at his platitudinous Safeway-aisle worst beingjammed up Robert Mckee's rectum like a suppository. This show acts likeit's all about the body language of liars, but it's way too simple!Wouldn't it be so easy if we lived in a world where everyone shared thesame lip curl or shoulder shrug or nape of the neck rub every timeanyone lied?
