Jolie brings a degree of unpredictability to her character which makes her more intriguing than the material or something like that.

She is also engaged to a Seattle Mariners star (Christian Kane). To top off her perfect life, her boss recommends her for a dream job, a network position in New York City. In order to increase her chances, he sends her to do field work with the renowned but difficult cameraman, Pete (Edward Burns). when she's on an assignment, Lanie runs into a homeless man, the prophet Jack (Tony Shalhoub), who makes three predictions: that the Seattle Seahawks will beat the Denver Broncos 19-13, that it will hail the following day, and that she'll be dead by next Thursday. When the first two predictions come true, Lanie reevaluates her life and realizes she's missing out on the smaller things because of her ambition. Jolie is sexy, adorable, and whimsical in her first comedy role. The sizzling banter between Burns and Jolie recalls Rosalind Russell and Cary Grant in HIS GIRL FRIDAY. LIFE OR SOMETHING LIKE IT is a lovely departure for director Steven Herek (ROCK STAR, BILL AND TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE). [More]

Reviews for Life or Something Like It
A misshapen, generally misguided, unnervingly simplistic romantic comedy with a spiritual element that means to give viewers pause, but seems far more likely to give them giggling fits.
A potentially decent little fantasy-comedy, which unfortunately settles for cheap sentiment and oddly out-of-place humor when it could be -- should be -- aiming much higher.
Trying to glean life lessons from this movie is about as futile as hunting for an emotionally honest bone in its bloated body.
A fluffy date movie that settles for platitudes every time it comes across an interesting idea.
This is an ungainly movie, ill-fitting, with its elbows sticking out where the knees should be.
A thoughtful and satisfying look at the ways we choose or refuse to take responsibility for our lives.
You may be galled that you've wasted nearly two hours of your own precious life with this silly little puddle of a movie.
Life or Something Like It probably won't become a modern-day classic in the vein of It's A Wonderful Life, but it's pretty wonderful.
Only in a movie like this could live-TV drunkenness become a career-advancing move.
Despite the film's decided thinness, there's still a kernel of something here -- a sweetness and vitality that peeks through.
Slightly above-average, somewhat dawdly and meandering romantic comedy. Angelina Jolie is at her most tolerable.
Jolie's cute and charming love interest Edward Burns is likable and has cool hair, and that's enough to make you root for the good guy (and gal) and gloss over the film's inadequacies.
The relentless upbeatness of Life or Something Like It wrecks the possibility of either real laughter or genuine pathos.
Life wouldn't have worked nearly as well as it did without Jolie, and I'm not sure too many other actresses could have carried this film.
Partly a schmaltzy, by-the-numbers romantic comedy, partly a shallow rumination on the emptiness of success -- and entirely soulless.
