Honestly look at these movies, besides a couple of misses (mostly in the directors category), these nominations are near spot on for actually good movies that can be considered art.

I know Wikipedia isn't the most accurate source of information, but it says that Paperman also got nominated for Best Animated Short Film.

For me the Oscars lost all credibility years ago. Nominations/winners are generally senseless. I only watch it for the Red Carpet event :P

Replace Alan Arkin for Leo and this is a very solid list.

I was prepared to be all filled with hate at the movies nominated, but the only place I'm kind of stunned is that Ben Affleck wasn't nominated for Best Director. Other than that I think they got it pretty spot on.

Pleased with: 5 nominations for Skyfall, including Cinematography and Original Score, Wreck-It Ralph getting a nomination for Animated Feature Film.

Disappointed with: No acting nods for Javier Bardem and Judi Dench for Skyfall, The Dark Knight Rises not getting a single nomination. Also curious as to why Ben Affleck and Tarantino were snubbed for Director?

Decent list of nominations this year, certainly better than last year, but they missed a few.

Maggie Smith (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) over Jacki Weaver. Ben Affleck over Ben Zeitlin. John Hawkes over Jaoquin Phoenix. I know Phoenix was spectacular, but he's made it very clear that he doesn't want any nominations. There are people who would kill for this nomination and if you can't respect the honor, you don't deserve it.

Everything in the noms is "ok" but not great except for one thing... David O. Russell for best director. WTF is wrong with these people.

Are there ZERO nominations for The Dark Knight Rises??? I know it's not as good as TDK, but not even a Visual Effects nomination?!!? And just one nomination for THE AVENGERS?!!? WTF?!!? And why is there no love in the directors category for Ben Affleck, Kate Bigelow, or Tom Hooper?

Only one nomination for Moonrise? WTF!!!!!!!!!! I feel like it's being totally ignored this season! At least it might win in the ONE CATEGORY it's nominated in. God......

Worst nominations list ever. I think the director nominations are worst you could almost change all five for Tarantino, Affleck, Bigalow, W Anderson and P Anderson.

Why don't movie like "The Avengers" ever get Best Picture nominations? I know it's just pop fun, but it was so well done, and hard to pull off, why not nominate it? Also, I've seen Beasts of the Southern Wild and I didn't like it.

A quick look through the best picture winners of each year indicates that the acadamy prefer films that play like a book.

I guess that is what white American men over 50 (The vast majoraty of the acadamy) like.

"Like a book"? Oh, you mean a novel, like a literate story with themes and meaning and developed characters and such? Because, I presume, black women like Toni Morrison and Alice Walker had nothing to do with those.

It is because The Avengers was what you said... "just pop fun." You answered your own question.

Jacki Weaver in best supporting actress is blowing my mind. She almost ruined Silver Linings Playbook for me.

Relatively happy with these noms. Sad about Wes Anderson and Moonrise not being nominated, though.

To be fair, Leonardo DiCaprio kind of sucks. His main talent is yelling. He really just did a funny accent.

I'm happy Joaquin is there. That's something they got right. The directing category is just embarrasing. No Ben Affleck, no Kathryn Bigelow, no Quentin Tarantino, no Tom Hooper, and no PTA. Sorry Oscars but you really f ed up here
