I was thinking Spielberg should win Best Director, if the Academy decided to snub Affleck and Bigelow,who should've been the frontrunners in the Director race. It's not a bad surprise, but it would've been nice to see Spielberg take home the Oscar.

I thought he was great in Django Unchained, but I felt it was kind of an expansion of his previous Tarantino character?s personality in Inglourious Basterds. Still, I am not the slightest bit mad, he was fantastic. The nominees were great, very strong field. Though, Alan Arkin was the weakest of the five. And can think of a few who were snubbed who delivered better, more powerful performances. So glad to see Robert De Niro back in the game, he is one of my favorite actors of all time. Tommy Lee Jones was great in Lincoln as well, though I think the rightful winner, at least from my perspective, is Philip Seymour Hoffman, who I though gave the most balanced, powerful portrait. I am not in any way mad though, it is an award show, and all the nominees deserve it. It?s not so much who wins, but who is nominated that I care for.

I disagree. While I though all three of these performances were great, there were performances in other films that were at the same quality, and it is very biased to say three performances from a single film deserve nominations, completely overlooking other performances.

It?s a matter of opinion. I too felt Wreck-It Ralph was more original and better than Brave, but there is no denying that Brave is a good film. Most people are probably disliking it because it steals the thunder from the other nominees, not because of the quality of the film.
And I too think politics have a say in this as well. If Brave was a Dreamworks production, there is no doubt whether it would win. It wouldn?t. But I still think it is quite ignorant of people just to rant because the winning film is not exactly as good as another nominee.

Why did Brave have to win again!!! Wreck-It Ralph, ParaNorman, and Frankenweenie were 100x better then Brave was. Curse you Pixar, you weren't brave enough to make one of your "Oscar worthly" movies your known for. Hopefully, Monsters University will be like Toy Story 3 and not like Cars 2.

Now that he is on an acting break and he has two big movies coming out this year (Baz Luhrmann and Martin Scorsese), I can?t see him not getting a nomination this time, and with his fifth collaboration with Scorsese, I think this might be his year. Hopefully. I also think they will recognize Ryan Gosling for either Only God Forgives or The Place Beyond the Pines. Just a feeling I have.
