Mary Elizabeth Winstead Set to "Make It Happen" In Burlesque Flick
by Jeff Giles | July 11, 2007
Discuss Article
If you watched "Live Free or Die Hard" and thought, "Gee, what I'd really like to see is Mary Elizabeth Winstead with less clothing and more dancing," this item is for you: Variety is reporting that Winstead will star in "Make It Happen," a project referred to as "a dance movie set in the world of burlesque."

"Happen" will be directed by Darren Grant, most recently seen behind the cameras for "Diary of a Mad Black woman," and the script comes courtesy of Duane Adler, screenwriter of "Step Up" and "Save the Last Dance" (turns out they're two separate movies -- we're as surprised as you).

Winstead in "Final Destination 3"

In the film, which will be released by The Weinstein Company, Winstead won't just be shaking her moneymaker. There's a plot arc here, people! As Variety reports:

Winstead plays a small-town woman who moves to Chi with dreams of entering the Chicago School of Dance but winds up working in a burlesque club. According to a plot description provided by TWC, the club "proves to be a place of conflict and self-discovery."

"Make It Happen" starts filming this August, and is presumably scheduled for a 2008 release.

Hell, I've been thinking that ever since Sky High. That girl is smokin'. Not that the world needs yet another ultra-hip dancing movie... *sigh* I think they must have a list somewhere of all the possible titles for this type of film (notice that they're all interchangable), and they won't stop making them until they've used the entire list.

hopefully this will be more Showgirls-esque than a sh3t natalie portman/jessica alba acting routine. nothin's more retarded than seeing a hot chic play a stripper-type that wreaks of "no nudity clause". it'd be like an action star saying nope, i'm not doing anything remotely dangerous WHATSOEVER...sorry! run through traffic?? uh...no thanks, stunt double pleeease!

They're filming this dumb movie in my city. Maybe I can somehow make the direcor disappear so it will never be made...

It seems like my city is getting a reputation for having bad dance movies being filmed here (ie- Shall We Dance). Ugh.

Oh, and the film is also written by the man (Duane Adler) who shoehorned us "Step Up", "Save the Last Dance 2". And the guy who directed this (Darren Grant) also directed "Diary of a Mad Black Woman". That, right there, should indicate what a lame movie this is gonna be. Thing is, Winstead is too talented an actress to subject herself to this nonsense.

Sounds like the synopsis for Showgirls 2: Chicago

I just registered to say. You guys suck! The movie isn't even released and you all are allready comdeming it. Have a little faith in Mary. She is a very talented actress and she allways shines when she is given the lead role. The plot sounds very Flash Dance like and that was a huge hit. One thing for sure there are a lot of Mary Elizabeth Winstead fans out there and we give her 100% support, As far as T&A. She probly won't do any or very little. It's more likely her co-actresses will do that. BTW ,Burlesque is a classy form of Strp tease, but in the end , the core of the movie isn't just about that.

BTW Fireflyfan member, count your lucky stars that Mary will be in your city. I know I would:)
