The straightforward routine story has plot holes you can drive a tractor through and a screenplay that's too clean for the messy story it's spinning.
I think the performances - especially Gordon-Levitt - pulls the film together. Gordon-Levitt's portrayal of Chris Pratt pulls you into the story and makes you want so badly for things to work out for him that it is painful. I think the reviewer completely missed this whole dynamic. He was expecting an action oriented heist movie when what Scott Frank gives us is a movie that is about one man's struggle to reclaim his life. The bank heist component is secondary (and handled very well).
Don't miss this gem because of reviews like above.
