Before The Lord of The Rings came out I had no interest in any stories set in Middle Earth. When you learn the back-story of J.R.R. Tolkien's life, as a British officer who served in France in WWI, you see the influences of what he saw and his overriding romantic view of Good conquering evil, no matter what the cost. The concept of the elves is beautiful. Also, it took him 13 years to write the trilogy. If
