When their father... This film is based on the life of the director's father, Niccolo "Mac" Turturro, a dedicated artisan who built houses and a successful carpentry business from the ground up. When their father dies, brothers Mac and Vito Vitelli continue to work side by side on a construction site and to live at home with their mother and younger brother Bruno. At work, Mac's a fastidious craftsman, but his painstaking efforts put him at odds with the foreman, Polowski, a quick and careless builder. Disgruntled, the Vitelli brothers go into business for themselves. But it isn't long before Mac starts working his brothers too hard, becoming an exacting, inflexible foreman.
