Reviews look like a few critics are taking this way too seriously

It's probably worse than the first like a lot of sequels but the rotten reviews read like wine tasters at a beer festival.

Agreed, it makes it more enjoyable that so many people have to watch it that aren't in on the joke. No comedy fan would seriously think Louis CK isn't funny because uptight yuppies don't understand the obscene jokes and won't laugh. Nobody who enjoys films like this seriously considers the opinions of people who don't think the CGI is realistic enough and don't understand why Danny Trejo would be cast as a lead action star. We just laugh at them.

Because mindless action movies are mindless, so we should treat them mindlessly.

Only Quentin does this genre right. RR needs to stop chasing Q. He's a one off, and the one and only.

I never saw the first one, so I'll just express my opinion. I just cannot take this seriously, but perhaps that is the point. It's categorized under Action & Adventure but when I saw Sophia Vergara shout "MACHETEEEEE" in her accent while in what I assume is a machine gun bra, I couldn't help but laugh at how bad it was. If they are trying for humor, categorize it as a comedy.

Well, Rodriguez is a very hit-or-miss director in my opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a miss.

Reviewers should take this seriously - viewers drawn to this kind of movie want to see it because of the killings they see in the trailer. However, when Machete isn't killing someone there's this thing called "the rest of the movie". Are you going to remain interested when Machete isn't killing someone, or be bored out of your skull? The reviewer's job is to tell you which of these you might be.

if you're expecting shakespeare dialogue and character development when he's not killing people, then you have jumped the shark mentally.

Sounds pretty accurate, actually. Although, we obviously won't know until 10/11. I still have plans to see it.
