Gorgeous, heartrending music, and excellent performances. I love opera, and this is by far the best I've seenyet.

Very well done in an old movie style. Beautiful music and story. Just shows how women sometimes give up everything for a man they love, and a man gives up nothing, uses her, then throws her away. It is still happening today. Same crap, different toilet .

Produced by Martin Scorsese, this French production is laudably competent in its lavish filming of the Puccini opera, respecting the medium of film as a separate art from live production.

Sweeping scenery and impressive performance make this already stellar opera a joy to watch on the big screen. I can't say the opera really benefited from being adapted to film, but I found it as captivating as the live performance.
