Sally Hawkins is eminently watchable, but it's too bad Made in Dagenham feels like it rolled off another kind of assembly line.

While Made in Dagenham is passably amusing, it's clearly not worth much as history, and its rote parade of obvious plot points can get tiresome.

Unfortunately, the story is just so predictable that there's little dramatic tension to speak of.

Despite a tremendous performance by Hawkins, I was never engaged by the struggle of these women. Their fight may have been historical in its impact, but there's little sense that the personal stakes are high.

[T]akes what was no doubt a valiant and game-changing labor battle and turns it into another Brit flick that tries desperately to be adorable.

"Made in Dagenham" plays like "Norma Rae" on blood thinners.

Sally Hawkins is convincing enough; it's the rest of the movie that isn't.

The film's broad, theatrical sensibility ultimately does a disservice to the heroic Dagenham women.

A black-and-white affair in which the people seem less like human beings than characters playing out roles they've been assigned.

I'm not saying Made In Dagenham is a shallow piece of nostalgic fluff. But within five minutes, Bob Hoskins is singing My Old Man Said Follow The Van during a power cut.

Everything is cute and light, Hawkins gets her big speech at the end, and nothing ever appears to be heavily at stake.

The movie spreads equal quantities of pained bemusement around the theatre, its earnest cheer certain to hit you in the eye wherever you sit.

The story is clichéd (I kept thinking of the far superior Norma Ray through the entirety of Made) and weakens the film.

[A] cloyingly nostalgic, femme-courting industrial drama...

While the story of these striking seat-cover seamstresses is well worth telling (and sadly still relevant, given the need for last year’s Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act), screenwriter William Ivory and director Nigel not tell it well.

The women look like ordinary people pushed too far. They also look like they have far more interesting stories to tell than those found in the rest of the film.
