Magic Mike Reviews

Magic Mike is a movie with good intentions, but failure for not deepen in the history of the characters, the writing is superficial and one thing who saved this movie is the good direction and some performances by the cast.

Good fun for he first hour or so, and I like Tatum dofus charm and all. However there just isn't a plot here, so it has a bit of a panic attack and becomes boringly predicatable. Fun but Soderbergh can do better (and has).

Magic Mike - CATCH IT (C+)Magic Mike may have been promoted as a male stripping movie but turns out to me more than just a stripping movie which may be a good thing for the critics but not for the audiences. The movie starts covers June and July but gives no reason what's the reason behind mentioning the months in big bold letters. I could not figure out whether it's a rom-com or it's about struggling man trying to make something out of his miserable lie serious I didn't not get anything at all. And worst thing is in the end, there is no ending as such. What's his future, what does he do, he doesn't have any plan anything it was all left hanging by Mr. Soderbergh. Among all stars I have to say Matthew McConaughey, Cody Horn (surprisingly, since I hated her in the promos) and Olivia Munn stands out for me. And even among these characters I found Cody Horn the only sensible one which made some sense. All other characters are so vague and pretentious that it was hard to relate to anyone of them. Channing Tatum is doing well these days and does a good job again after The Vow and 21 Jump Street. I use to like Alex Pettyfer a lot but now I think he is overrated and not that good of an actor. Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer and Adam Rodriguez all did a fine job in shaking their assists' on the floor. Olivia Munn was very natural and somehow I really starting to liker her after watching her in "The Newsroom". In the end, I found the movie quite boring at times and didn't understand the purpose behind it. If it was entertainment then I have to say it wasn't entertaining.

Strange film. It's excellently made by Soderbergh, well shot, decent acting turns and so on. The characters are really very one dimensional though and the plot is rather thin. Musings on capitalism played against a male stripper background didn't really work, the two worlds seemed to far apart.

This reminded me of going to see the Chippendale dancers at King Farouk's (on Rt. 40 in Baltimore) in the early 80s.

While it may not be Soderbergh's best work, I generally liked the humor and I really liked Matthew McConaughey's performance.

Soderbergh does well to subvert expectation. After a while, however, the feeling of being pleasantly surprised wears off and the once rousing strip scenes begin to drag on. The film eventually loses its magic by relying on predictable and uninspired storytelling.

Story was somewhat fresh and a very good point of view of a Male stripper; which I can't denied that it was very steamy, loved every second of it.
Performance by Channing Tatum was so surprising he really is making a name for himself, this is probably his best performance especially when he dances (OMG). Another noticeable performance was by Alex Pettyfer, he did an awesome job and he moves that rocking hard body. And the other actors were all great as well.
Overall Channing Tatum best performance, hot male strippers, great performance by every single actor in this film. I just wished they didn't add the girls, I mean this film is really about Male stripper, not women strippers, but whatever I still got to see men dancing on that stage. Kudos to Director Steven Soderbergh, one of my newest favorite director. Who knows what he has up his sleeves next.
Magic Mike is the best male stripper film that has ever come out, its dazzling visual of half naked men was just hot, a great plot, and great performance by all our leads makes this film a unforgettable experience.

Clearly made by a person who hates the movie he's making, and the characters, and the audience. Soderbergh, I'm glad you quit. You're blatantly depressed.

The only two things that save this movie are Channing Tatum's moves and Alex Pettyfer's gorgeousness. Otherwise, the plot that pretends to have a deeper meaning falls short, didn't even deliver a conclusive ending. Non of the characters are likable. I have a feeling that the only people who actually liked this movie are women who haven't had sex in more than a year. Although, if it was a dance compilation, or even a light film with a plot a-la Coyote Ugly, I would enjoy it waaaaay more.

I went into this expecting something really great. What I got was raunchiness, no plot, and a yellow tint over everything. Way over hyped

I didn't much like "All About Eve" when I first saw it, and it wasn't that much better when they called it "Magic Mike." While the performances are sincere (Channing Tatum is a consistently solid performer with excellent timing), the humor and potential fun of the movie are dampened with an all too predictable storyline that inevitably involves drugs and crime. The movie was marketed as a semi-erotic comedy; I didn't expect to be bored.
