So bland and utterly forgettable that it might as well have been titled Generic Jennifer Lopez Romantic Comedy.

In Revolution Studios' charming romantic comedy Maid in Manhattan, Jennifer Lopez stars as a hard-working, intelligent and determined single mother who dreams of a better life. While struggling as a housekeeper at Manhattan's first-class Beresford Hotel, she falls for a rising politician, who mistakenly assumes she's a socialite guest at the hotel.
Will a hotel worker from the Bronx and a well-heeled gentleman from midtown Manhattan risk it all for a chance at romance?
Marisa Ventura has made a good life for herself and her ten-year-old son, Ty (Tyler Garcia Posey), even if they don't have a lot of money. One Saturday morning Marisa brings Ty to the Beresford. She asks a co-worker to keep an eye on him for her while she and another maid, Stephanie (Marissa Matrone), attend to their chores. One of the hotel guests, a spoiled socialite, Caroline Lane (Natasha Richardson), asks Marisa to return some designer clothes for her. After Caroline leaves, Stephanie coaxes Marisa into trying them on before taking them back to the store. In an uncharacteristically frivolous moment, Marisa slips into the chic, expensive outfits.
Ty appears at the door with the handsome Christopher Marshall (Ralph Fiennes), an aspiring U.S. Senator and one of Manhattan's most eligible bachelors. Ty has come to ask Marisa's permission to walk through Central Park with Christopher and his dog Rufus. Christopher is immediately attracted to Marisa. Assuming she is a hotel guest, he asks her to join them. She is about to refuse, but Stephanie intervenes and accepts for her.
Despite the obvious sparks between them, Marisa is reluctant to encourage Christopher, fearing she'll lose all that she's worked so hard to build. But he pursues her, even though it could compromise his political career.
As romance, mistaken identity and front-page gossip collide, Marisa and Christopher learn that the bigger your dreams, the better the chance they might come true.

Reviews for Maid in Manhattan
A skillful, glossy, formula picture, given life by the appeal of its stars.
The heroine is written as a classic underdog with whom we can't help but sympathize, but Lopez invests her with the extra dose of dignity and quiet determination that gives her substance.
Writhing under dialogue like 'You’re from two different worlds' and 'Tonight the maid is a lie and this, this is who you are,' this schlock-filled fairy tale hits new depths of unoriginality and predictability.
Despite its flaws, Maid in Manhattan is a perfectly serviceable date movie, and a decent showcase for a leading lady who clearly is ready for better things.
A diverting trifle that will amuse you while it's on the screen, then fade from memory while the final credits roll.
Take a dash of Cinderella, add various safe, predictable, cute scenes, a couple of funny characters, plenty of Pretty Woman make-up.
The same people who got that warm, fuzzy feeling in their tummies from Sweet Home Alabama will be right at home here. By the way, that's not a compliment.
Doesn't get the job done, running off the limited chemistry created by Ralph Fiennes and Jennifer Lopez.
It's supposed to be a romantic comedy - it suffers from too much Norma Rae and not enough Pretty Woman.
Employs so many mechanical plot devices, it might want to change its title to Made in a Factory.
Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes make another Cinderella story -- and the supporting cast and Wayne Wang's direction make it pleasant.
Maid in Manhattan proves that it's easier to change the sheets than to change hackneyed concepts when it comes to dreaming up romantic comedies.
If this deeply lame Cinderella story, apparently the result of an unholy tryst between Pretty Woman and Working Girl, had an original idea in its head, that idea would swiftly die of loneliness.
Executed by The Joy Luck Club's Wayne Wang with the professional dispatch of someone delivering room service.
Occasionally, the script ventures into territory that makes it seem like a different kind of fairy tale ... But the captivating performers are more than enough to give this Cinderella story a night at the ball.
