Actress Wendy Hiller, who appeared in the screen version of George Bernard Shaw's "Pygmalion," also won raves for her performance in the title role of this other Shaw adaptation. Barbara Undershaft, a defiant, idealistic daughter of a munitions tycoon, joins the Salvation Army. There, she becomes romantically involved with a Greek scholar named Adolphus. All her lofty visions of the world quickly evaporate, however, when the Army accepts a large sum of money from Barbara's less than noble father -- and Adolphus accepts her dad's offer of a high-paying position.
