Director of "Man Bites Dog" Dies at 38
by RT Staff | September 06, 2006

DEAUVILLE, France -- Belgian director, screenwriter and actor Remy Belvaux, whose debut film "Man Bites Dog" became a cult hit, has died, his family announced Wednesday. He was 38.

A family statement said he died Monday night in Orry-la-Ville, north of Paris, but no cause of death was given. Shot on a micro budget, "Man Bites Dog" purported to be a fly-on-the-wall TV documentary about the life of a cynically jovial serial killer. The movie walks a dangerous line between black humor and abject horror as the TV crew gradually becomes more implicated in the killer's gruesome crimes. Talk about your one hit wonders. He made 'Man Bites Dog' back in 1992.
And according to IMDB it was the last thing he ever directed or wrote. It was also basically the only film of note he made.

It's one of the most shocking black comedies ever. It's also brilliant.

As confronting as it was, apparently the uncut version is much, much more graphic. Rape scenes etc were edited out etc...

Movie sucked, but I respect what he was trying to do. If he really creampied Gates, then he should be immortalized.

Yes, by all means let's creampie Bill Gates, a man who helped get the personal computer market where it is today and gives something like 50% of his money to charity. What a horrible human being he is.

All geeks should be creampied. It's a fact of life. Hell, I get creampied every morning when I walk out of my house.

Hey Taran/Jango,

It may very well be your (IMO mis)perception that the movie "sucked"...but I think that's more a reflection of your flawed [subjective] perception than of the worth of MBD. The 'fact' of the matter is that Man Bites Dog is an undeniably BRILLIANT (and unnerving) pitch-black satire. Just 'cause you disagree doesn't mean that it isn't so.
