The film opens in South Africa 1948, when the racist policy of apartheid was enacted and when the studious Nelson Mandela was practicing law. Mandela meets and eventually weds his beloved, Winnie. In the meantime, he becomes increasingly sensitive to the violence against his black brethren. Ultimately, he finds the courage to defy the authorities and uses his charisma to lead the oppressed majority. Mandela was later imprisoned for his words and deeds. Much to his tormentors' chagrin, however, his influence over his followers never waned. [More]
