Consensus: The material is too thin for feature-length and the jokes are socially outdated and clueless.

Much to upstanding citizen and media mogul Ben Feld's (Richard Benjamin) chagrin and surprise, he owns the label, a shock that sends him straight to the hospital. Determined to help out her ailing father, stereotypical Jewish American Princess and Manhattan socialite Marci Feld (Lisa Kudrow) takes matter into her own hands and tries to clean up Dr. S.' act in hopes of fielding an apology from the hardcore rapper. Marci raps about fashion, takes the fast-talking ladies man to charity events where he woos her friends and other high society ladies, and wins over the attendees at his nightclub with interpretive dance. Along the way, this unlikely couple falls in love despite valiant attempts by Dr. S.' girlfriend, Yolanda (Paula Garcés), to keep her man. Wayans' over-the-top wardrobe by itself is enough to garner a chuckle. Star Richard Benjamin (MY FAVORITE YEAR, MERMAIDS) also directed this satirical look at rap, race relationships, and politics, which features original songs by Marc Shaiman (composer for HAIRSPRAY) and Mervyn Warren. Reviews for Marci X
A mess of would-be satire and condescending humor that never works for a second. Every person involved with this disaster should be ashamed.
A movie apparently determined to set back the progress of blacks in American culture by several decades.
A talent-stuffed assemblage of barbs and giddy musical numbers that shouldn't be written off as a feature flop -- but savored instead for the cult-ready collection of late-night satirical skits and misses it is.
It's made by people who apparently don't know a damned thing about rap or hip-hop and have made lame sitcom with 30 minutes of story stretched out to 90 minutes of movie.
There are some funny moments, but it's quite obvious that no one associated with this movie knows anything about rap music.
...a tremendously clumsy and disastrous dud for the ages...a staggeringly inept romp that plays like stale fodder in a nostalgic Luther Campbell/2Live Crew home movie.
The term 'wildly uneven' doesn't come close to charting the peaks and valleys of Marci X.
The spoofs in Marci X are so old and dated, it boggles the imagination to think of what group might still be offended them.
Marci X plays like a satire made by people who don't know the worlds they're satirizing.
If this had been released in, say, 1994 at the latest, it might have been cutting-edge. As it is, it's just so much sticky foam on the cappuccino.
This is the kind of movie that would leave a hopeful crowd feeling let down, but might sparkle like a tiara in a trash can for someone who discovers it by chance.
Director Benjamin doesn't really handle the material with the outrageous excess it deserves, with the result that the proceedings seem far too mild.
The actors had little to work with in this passe social satire, but sharper performances might have saved Marci from total humorless ruin.
