Simple observation: At first glance, it appears that he agrees with the Tomatometer most of the time. But if you look closer, he disagrees on the bigger releases on a regular basis. Didn't like The Hunger Games or Cabin In The Woods, but he sure did love him some Mirror, Mirror.
Not to say that matters, because it's his opinion and everyone is allowed to have one of those, I hear.
You are nothing short of a contrarian. You make every movie that people are bound to enjoy look like something far different. It has gotten to bad that people expect it from you, so you have accomplished nothing but making yourself the most useless critic on the web. How about for once you review a movie actually based on how you saw it and not in a way that you KNOW people will be bothered and annoyed? You are one of the only critics who people read the reviews for and then take no heed. You do not make people want to see movies less because you review them poorly, you personally add to the luster of movies by reviewing them poorly. The only saving grace of this review: fans will see it, but so will others who normally would not because YOU reviewed it poorly. Congratulations, you just made this movie a ton of money
Im kinda thinking here what you described is exactly what Cole intends to do... There must be some money involved, where intentionally give bad reviews to epic movies, so then becouse of his reputation, the movie is seen as good... And the more time he does so, becomes more and mroe obvious the big movies he reviews as rotten are the good ones... There is no accident there, just plain fat lies for money...
I agree that every critic has right to his opinion, but guys like him and Armond are just sellouts, they are NOT movie critics...
After once reading Mr. Smithey's totally outrageous and bizarre review of The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie entitled 'How SpongeBob Promotes Pedophilia, Not Homosexuality', I have never been able to read one of his reviews again for fear of what come out of that demented mind.
Just read his full review. I can admire his opinion but when he doesn't even get the full name of SHIELD right, I have to wonder if he is really reviewing the film on it's merits. From his review, I have the feeling he doesn't like comic book movies (except Spider Man 2), which seems odd that he would be reviewing a film of a genre (are comic book movies a genre yet?) he doesn't like. Still, Avengers is still high at 96%, and hopefully it won't go below 90.
Hey most of the critics love The Avengers, but you dislike it? You must be privy to a well of discernment that no one else can imagine. You are also very original. Perhaps if The Avengers was a foreign language film with little action then it would have been something truly amazing. Maybe you should talk to Joss Whedon on your creative insights, or you could cram your elitist opinion back down your own throat, your choice.
I honestly don't understand why Cole Smithey continues to hand out negative reviews to films that other critics hail. He did the exact same thing with "Toy Story 3" and "The Hunger Games", and both movies turned out to be excellent. I also find his system of reviewing films inconsistent. He has given positive reviews to "Safe", "The Lorax", "Project X", "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island", "Johnny English Reborn", "Mirror Mirror", "Silent House", "Detachment", "Immortals", and "The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence)". Meanwhile, he has given negative reviews to movies such as "Toy Story 3", "The Hunger Games", "The Cabin in the Woods", "Shame", "The Descendants", "Miss Bala", "We Need to Talk About Kevin", "Kill List", "Crazy Horse", "Arthur Christmas", "Rampart", "Tyrannosaur", and "Martha Marcy May Marlene". I honestly believe that critics such as Cole Smithey and Rex Reed are far worse than ones like Armond White. After all, White is simply an Internet troll. Smithey and Reed actually try to give legitimate reasons for why certain critically-lauded movies are bad. That being said, I have a feeling that Reed will be the next critic to dislike "The Avengers". Either way, the film is still flying high at a 96%. Having seen "The Avengers" at an advance screening, I can safely say that it is well worth the hype.
