Critic Review - Reel Film Reviews

By the time the utterly routine (and decidedly endless) finale rolls around, Marvel's The Avengers has unquestionably squandered the potential of its premise and its cast...

why do i feel like the reason this person decided to bash this film was to take it down from its 93% rating and start a virtual riot. nonetheless he failed :)

I guess you do not know the meaning of bashing. This film was not good. It was completely mindless.

This movie was the best movie from this summer, alongside The Amazing Spiderman and possibly The Dark Knight Rises...

Superhero movie fanboy. You have obviously not seen (or saw but there wasn't enough action for you) Beasts of the Southern Wild or Moonrise Kingdom. The real best movies of the summer

From what I've seen so far of this summer's movies, 'De Rouille et d'Os' is the best picture. The Avengers totally blows.

You try so hard to be different from everyone else by bashing a amazing film that was made perfectly, all you look like a wanna-be idiot. Get a life...

I think many of the positive reviews were borderline. If you look on Metacritic, it's only like a 70%. His review may be honest, but your reply screams of immaturity.

The avengers is really for teens and kids though isn't it? It's not pretending to an adult movie. It's like people slagging of harry potter, it's for kids!

I realize that. I'd say 93% approval makes this thing an over-achiever, given what it is. These fans who bash reviewers that don't go for The Avengers are being really silly. They should be happy with their 93% score, I mean, it's not like it's The Godfather. Heck, it's not even in my top 15 comic book movies.

While I agree that a reviewer shouldn't be attacked in most cases, I really hate when people bring up Metacritic as a way to say that Rotten Tomatoes isn't accurate. Historically (at least every time that I have checked), Metacritic reviews will have an average difference of about 15-20 points from Rotten Tomatoes on nearly every single movie. In other words, an RT 90 is about equal to a MC 70. Of course, I'm speaking in generalities, but it's very often true.

Metacritic has simply positioned itself as a snootier, slightly pretentious version of Rotten Tomatoes.

This reviewer is just bitter because The Avengers is going to make way more money as his favorite art-house movie. Well boo-hoo-hoo. That's just too bad.

I would'nt trip too much off what this reviewer says, this clown gave "Godfather" & "Godfather Part 2" 3 out of 4 stars and called one a bloated epic. Between those reviews and this one,it kills this guy's credentials, he has none whatsoever in my opinion.

I call this guy the "adverb King". He uses way too many adverbs. Seriously, there are three in this short quote ("utterly", "decidedly" and "unquestionably"). It really gets old and seems like filler for his reviews.

Even those with class don't have to be verbose just for the sake of verbosity. Having a large vocabulary and using it means you are classy precisely as much as being Catholic means you are the Pope.

While I agree Battleship is crap, the fact a movie bombs or is a hit has nothing to do with quality. 2001 and Citizen Kane were huge bombs, while Transformers makes a ton of money. Hell that POS Gone with the Wind is still the most seen movie of all time.

You all are way too hard on this guy. I mean, at least he had the courtesy to wait until the movie was a runaway hit to chime in with his cold water of a review. No movie is perfect. While I absolutely LOVED this film, I leave room for those who did not. If you want this critic to go away...to never be heard from again; don't fret...he's already as irrelevant as one can be while still breathing.

Do explain, why are you calling this a "mindless popcorn flick"? What, because it has special effects, loads of CGI and ice-breaking humor? Those would be valid reasons for the Transformers trilogy, but that's hardly the case here. The director you call a "hack", Joss Whedon (not "Wheedon") has used these attributes secondarily, and therefore wisely, instead of making them the main attraction of the whole movie. Had he done the latter, that would be the definition of a "popcorn flick". And if you're still wondering as to what the movie's depth was, it has already been accurately depicted and answered to you by David F, which is all the movie needed. Why? Because the characters were already developed in their own independent movies, so the movie at hand didn't have much left to do in that regard. Nonetheless, that aspect of the movie's depth was still touched upon. The only remaining aspects of the depth would be the villain's ideologies and ways of being, and how the Avengers would use teamwork (in both personal and proffesional aspects) in order to save the world. All successfully elaborated in the flick.

Sorry troll, but Joss Whedon is no hack. He's a comic book geek: one who loves and knows comics. The Avengers is amazing because of what Whedon did: putting an actual comic book on film.

Something that Nolan or any other director did.

A "basher" is one who "bashes" on something.... really, I thought that was obvious..... (bashes means "makes fun of" or "finds flaws in")

Jun 11 - 11:29 PM

Jordan Belvin

Jordan Belvin

Actually Trevor that's not what bashes means, if you are using the informal definition it means to criticize in a harsh or threatening manner. Which, according to your definition, any criticism would be bashing which is incorrect.
