By the time the utterly routine (and decidedly endless) finale rolls around, Marvel's The Avengers has unquestionably squandered the potential of its premise and its cast...
why do i feel like the reason this person decided to bash this film was to take it down from its 93% rating and start a virtual riot. nonetheless he failed :)
May 24 - 09:28 PM
I guess you do not know the meaning of bashing. This film was not good. It was completely mindless.
Jul 16 - 01:22 PM
Tell that to all of the other critics that praised it
Aug 10 - 04:23 PM
Oh because Critics praised it this individual is supposed to like it?
Sep 11 - 05:09 PM
This movie was the best movie from this summer, alongside The Amazing Spiderman and possibly The Dark Knight Rises...
Aug 10 - 10:38 PM
Superhero movie fanboy. You have obviously not seen (or saw but there wasn't enough action for you) Beasts of the Southern Wild or Moonrise Kingdom. The real best movies of the summer
Aug 31 - 07:51 AM
From what I've seen so far of this summer's movies, 'De Rouille et d'Os' is the best picture. The Avengers totally blows.
Sep 12 - 09:36 PM
Agreed about it being mindless. Honestly, it was boring to me.
Aug 21 - 07:29 AM
You try so hard to be different from everyone else by bashing a amazing film that was made perfectly, all you look like a wanna-be idiot. Get a life...
May 24 - 10:31 PM
I think many of the positive reviews were borderline. If you look on Metacritic, it's only like a 70%. His review may be honest, but your reply screams of immaturity.
May 30 - 10:26 AM
The avengers is really for teens and kids though isn't it? It's not pretending to an adult movie. It's like people slagging of harry potter, it's for kids!
Jun 1 - 01:10 AM
I realize that. I'd say 93% approval makes this thing an over-achiever, given what it is. These fans who bash reviewers that don't go for The Avengers are being really silly. They should be happy with their 93% score, I mean, it's not like it's The Godfather. Heck, it's not even in my top 15 comic book movies.
Jun 1 - 10:55 AM
Bro, metacritic is THE WORST review site for ANYTHING EVER.
Jun 11 - 06:25 PM
Jun 19 - 04:35 AM
While I agree that a reviewer shouldn't be attacked in most cases, I really hate when people bring up Metacritic as a way to say that Rotten Tomatoes isn't accurate. Historically (at least every time that I have checked), Metacritic reviews will have an average difference of about 15-20 points from Rotten Tomatoes on nearly every single movie. In other words, an RT 90 is about equal to a MC 70. Of course, I'm speaking in generalities, but it's very often true.
Metacritic has simply positioned itself as a snootier, slightly pretentious version of Rotten Tomatoes.
Jun 21 - 12:57 AM
This reviewer is just bitter because The Avengers is going to make way more money as his favorite art-house movie. Well boo-hoo-hoo. That's just too bad.
May 24 - 10:36 PM
I would'nt trip too much off what this reviewer says, this clown gave "Godfather" & "Godfather Part 2" 3 out of 4 stars and called one a bloated epic. Between those reviews and this one,it kills this guy's credentials, he has none whatsoever in my opinion.
May 25 - 04:27 AM
I call this guy the "adverb King". He uses way too many adverbs. Seriously, there are three in this short quote ("utterly", "decidedly" and "unquestionably"). It really gets old and seems like filler for his reviews.
May 25 - 06:47 AM
Ha! Nice catch, Jamey!
May 25 - 10:05 AM
Yeah I feel like movie reviewers have to go out of their way to use a larger vocabulary to feel academic. Otherwise they would just be a bunch of people watching movies. haha
May 28 - 07:48 PM
In Your Dreams
nah it's called having class, you should try it some time instead of just being a zombie fanboy
May 31 - 08:29 AM
Lenora Hefley Rice
Even those with class don't have to be verbose just for the sake of verbosity. Having a large vocabulary and using it means you are classy precisely as much as being Catholic means you are the Pope.
Jun 15 - 05:40 PM
Well there is a pope...
Jul 16 - 01:13 PM
May 28 - 07:52 PM
Kick this idiot out!!!!
May 25 - 01:25 PM
For having his own opinion?
Jun 14 - 09:36 AM
Must have been the same guy who gave that bomb of a movie, battleship a thumbs lol.
May 25 - 07:40 PM
While I agree Battleship is crap, the fact a movie bombs or is a hit has nothing to do with quality. 2001 and Citizen Kane were huge bombs, while Transformers makes a ton of money. Hell that POS Gone with the Wind is still the most seen movie of all time.
Jun 3 - 02:27 AM
You poor, poor little creature. :(
Jun 3 - 08:20 PM
Jun 6 - 03:37 PM
2001 and Citizen Cane were moderate success not flops. But I agree with you. Huge money earning never means a movie is good.
Jun 16 - 12:04 PM
Naw bro he gave battleship a .5/4, click his name and you can check his ratings....
Jun 7 - 08:51 PM
You need to get a job.
May 25 - 10:39 PM
He has a job, he just isn't very good at it.
Jun 16 - 04:37 PM
Jun 21 - 09:44 PM
This man falls under the category's of Schmuck and retard.
May 26 - 12:26 AM
You all are way too hard on this guy. I mean, at least he had the courtesy to wait until the movie was a runaway hit to chime in with his cold water of a review. No movie is perfect. While I absolutely LOVED this film, I leave room for those who did not. If you want this critic to go away...to never be heard from again; don't fret...he's already as irrelevant as one can be while still breathing.

Yeah, I don't think this guy knows what a good movie is.

Do explain, why are you calling this a "mindless popcorn flick"? What, because it has special effects, loads of CGI and ice-breaking humor? Those would be valid reasons for the Transformers trilogy, but that's hardly the case here. The director you call a "hack", Joss Whedon (not "Wheedon") has used these attributes secondarily, and therefore wisely, instead of making them the main attraction of the whole movie. Had he done the latter, that would be the definition of a "popcorn flick". And if you're still wondering as to what the movie's depth was, it has already been accurately depicted and answered to you by David F, which is all the movie needed. Why? Because the characters were already developed in their own independent movies, so the movie at hand didn't have much left to do in that regard. Nonetheless, that aspect of the movie's depth was still touched upon. The only remaining aspects of the depth would be the villain's ideologies and ways of being, and how the Avengers would use teamwork (in both personal and proffesional aspects) in order to save the world. All successfully elaborated in the flick.

Sorry troll, but Joss Whedon is no hack. He's a comic book geek: one who loves and knows comics. The Avengers is amazing because of what Whedon did: putting an actual comic book on film.
Something that Nolan or any other director did.
Jun 19 - 03:13 AM
Obviously not a Marvel fan to begin with, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. Wrong as it may be. :)
May 26 - 03:00 PM
That's because you're an idiot.
May 27 - 06:50 PM
Wow. That comment of yours was just so original and also funny. Your comment is bland ignorant, brief, unintelligent, and dull.
Jun 2 - 07:58 PM
(If you're going to troll, do it right)
Jun 23 - 12:30 PM
Actually it's "you are" so he's right. and why are you being so picky anyway?
Aug 11 - 07:50 PM
These crazy fanboy comments are hilarious!
May 27 - 02:34 PM
So are the crazy basher comments.
May 28 - 06:26 PM
What the hell is a "basher"? Is that some retort fanboys made up to feel relevant?
May 31 - 08:32 AM
I would imagine it is about as made up as "fanboy" is.
Jun 1 - 12:28 PM
A "basher" is one who "bashes" on something.... really, I thought that was obvious..... (bashes means "makes fun of" or "finds flaws in")
Jun 11 - 11:29 PM
Actually Trevor that's not what bashes means, if you are using the informal definition it means to criticize in a harsh or threatening manner. Which, according to your definition, any criticism would be bashing which is incorrect.
