I want someone to go against this: The Avenger's had an incredibly generic storyline....... I could tell about twenty minutes in how it was going to end. That's all my friend needed and he fell asleep until near the end. Then he woke up thinking he was watching Transformers. Lots of hype-lots of star power. But that's it. Oh-and it made six superheroes barely fit on a screen, but that's because they zoomed out enough that you only cared for Iron Man because he's a funny smartass.
Oh i'll go against it and you anyday of the week and one up you. You're indeed entitled to your opinion no matter how wrong i think you are. This film had everything going for it, action, drama, effects, comedy, charisma and it connected with general audiences, maybe not with you and you're flaky ass friend, but it did with so many others. w You said it reminded you of 'Transformers LOL, mam gimmie a break dog.
@FredBrooks I did not compare this to Transformers. MY FRIEND WOKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF HULK SMASHING STUFF AND THOUGH HE WAS WATCHING TRANSFORMERS. My sis made it 20 minutes in. My other sister loved it cause she wants Tom Hiddleston. It also KILLED WHERE DRAMA SHOULD'VE BEEN. Hulk SMASHES THE LIVING CRAP OUT OF THE BAD-A THAT HAD BEEN MESSING WITH THEM THE WHOLE MOVIE. Then that's it.....the evil villain is defeated.....in a hilarious manner?? Then they have to close a portal where aliens are coming through Ohno! Is Iron Man going to die? WAIT!!WTH, they'd already announced Iron Man 3...9 months before.
Only truly good character development scene was between Banner and Black Widow, it really made me believe if they kept some of that up, it would've been great..... but then everything else was cracking jokes or the heroes threatening to fight each other
I agree with the Iron Man part: The end was lame, like a ripoff of Independence Day. And I wish it had been Captain America instead because Cap America's the most lame one.
Okay, I definitely agree with you that they spent way too much time with Iron Man. I don't agree that the story was generic, but I can see where you're coming from. Yeah, we all knew eventually how it was going to turn out, but that's the case with a lot of movies nowadays.
I agree with Mr. Cahoon here. I found this film to be incredibly generic and predictable. I saw this with my cousin and he fell asleep half way though as well. I really cannot believe how overrated Avengers is.
You have no taste in movies my dude, Like foreal this was one badass movie, story fuck yu, how did expect it to end with them losing. It had a kick ass villain. Very good performaces from robert downy and mike ruffalo. And action that came at all angles If this was a bad story than go read shakespeare
"Go read shakespeare" is not an intelligent response to comments about the generic plot. Avengers was an incredibly agreeable movie: raising no questions, taking no stances, etc. For this I think it remains forgettable.
Real intelligent commentary guys, save for one. First of all, just because he had issues with the movie does not make him a "hater". HE has a right to not like it and I thought he crafted a fairly decent critique. Im thinking the fanboys (the rude ones) didnt read the whole comentary.
Note the end comment: "This review is pretty much just a litany of nitpicks on what amounts to be a pretty good sci-fi action extravaganza".
Does that sound like he hated the movie? Doesnt to me.... really guys sheath the claws and learn to read a little better, and not be so damned rude. I was bored to tears by the end sequence as well, gave the movie a "meh". It lacked some standard cookie-cutter physics and consistancy, but does that make me a hater too?
I loved The Avengers, but you people who are making these juvenile remarks are embarrassing yourselves. Not everyone likes the same things. If we all agreed on everything, the world would be a very boring place. "Oh you don't like what I like, so that means you're an asshole!" Do you see how much of a hypocrite that makes you?
I disagree with this guy's review, but that's okay. If you liked this movie, then you shouldn't give a damn what he thinks. Don't just start insulting the guy. His opinion is just that: an opinion.
Good review. Sounds like he wanted to like it, but just didn't. I felt the same, and was surprisingly numbed by the dumbed-down climax. The humor was good, and RDJ is always good as Stark, but the movie fell flat in the end. An interesting villain with an actual story to tell might have helped ...
Why people become so worked up over one critics opinion I'll never know. Let's all get psychotic because he is part of the eight percent of critics online that didn't enjoy it. Haha. You'd be hard pressed to find a movie that one hundred percent of any population would like.
I liked the movie but you cant say its predictable because all movies are. Saying its predictable is not a good enough reason... Just my opinion so do not shoot please.
Just joking about the shooting part, I just think its funny people are actually arguing and being ignorant towards one another because of a opinion one has.
Finally rented this last night and must admit that I fell asleep. Watched it 2 more times. When I WAS able to sit through it awake, I found no story, just a bunch of jumbled clips put together like someone on acid.
It was 'eye candy' the first time around and I ALSO found it very comparable to Transformers which was a lot of special effects but really, NO STORY.
Hey, it is what it is but I think it could be done a lot better.
Of course the kids will disagree but kids will be kids and really don't require much top be entertained.
Rotten Tomatoes has quite a stable of so-called "professional critics" who couldn't get a day job washing dishes.
