Now, as... As a child, May (Angela Bettis) had a lazy eye and had to wear a patch, which kept other children from befriending her. Her mother gave her a handmade doll, which became her only companion. Now, as a young adult, the doll is still May's only friend. But when she meets Adam (Jeremy Sisto) at a coffee shop and feels a strong attraction toward him, she tries to overcome her shyness and pursue him. When he ends their very brief relationship, however, it cements May's belief that no person is entirely good--only PARTS of them are good--and she decides to put that concept into frightening practice. A bizarre, darkly comic, and bloody horror treat, MAY is a strikingly original directorial debut from Lucky McKee. [More]

A horror film and something more and deeper, something disturbing and oddly moving.

Tagline should be, 'If you can't find a really bad Frankenstein rip-off, make something like this.'

Taps into a furious atavistic energy that reflects well on the filmmaker and his fully committed cast.

It's a humanistic entry in a most dehumanizing cycle, a film about dolls in which people really matter.

There’s an undeniable artistic clarity of vision to Lucky McKee's 'tweener' psychological horror pic, a well-acted, disquieting little character study. If you’re a genre fan, set aside some screen time for May.

While there are several praise-worthy elements of MAY , the titular character's lament that "Most people have perfect parts, but are never perfect in their whole" applies just as well to the film

Director Lucky McKee has a knack for discomfiting material involving contact lenses and animal hospitals, but such moments are increasingly rare as he stretches his material.

Like Spacek, Bettis goes far beyond the lackluster acting you usually see in horror movies.

Lucky Mckee's film works better as a misfit character study than it does a purebred slasher flick.

McKee's directing and screenwriting are unusually low-key for a psychological horror thriller, and Bettis is excellent as the disturbed antiheroine.
