Danny Kaye gives a sensitive, understated performance in this screen adaptation of a play about of an oddly-matched pair's escape from Nazi occupied France. In order to flee from quickly advancing German forces, anti-Semitic Polish Colonel Prokoszny must team up with a man who procures a car for their flight: S.L. Jacobowsky, a Jew who quietly takes the Colonel's racist abuse. But when the colonel's incompetence lands them in the Nazis' clutches, It is Jacobowsky's nimble mind that wins their freedom. And the bigoted Colonel, having found respect for his companion's quick wit, eventually learns a valuable lesson in tolerance and acceptance. [More]
