Movie Info

A race of alien parasites that has discovered the secret of transforming human flesh into biomechanical weaponry stages a grotesque invasion of planet Earth, only to discover just how mighty the power of love truly is in directors Yudai Yamaguchi and Junichi Yamamoto's unhinged, experimental sci-fi horror hybrid. They possess the ability to transform their hosts into mechanical death dealers who will stop at nothing to see their enemies torn to pieces, and now it appears that mankind is facing certain annihilation. When a pair of young romantics begins to find their bodies riddled with oozing, tumorous globules, the heart is pitted against the mind as the couple's killer instincts gradually begin to overpower their undying love. In the tradition of Shinya Tsukamoto's Tetsuo: The Iron Man, Meatball Machine takes viewers into a horrific and darkly comic world where the flesh turns on the body to horrific effect. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovimore

Bizarre Japanese cyber-punk gore-fest with a bit of tragi-romance thrown in. Despite the obvious low-budget it's got some crazy and oddly impressive make-up effects and visuals... and of course lots of OTT bloody moments. It's a great effort but not a great film but manages to provide an entertaining and original film as much as its budget allowed and has helped kick-start a new wave of Japanese splatter movies.

Alien parasites infect human hosts and morph their bodies into fighting machines who then fight each other--will a couple of sweet, shy young lovers each get infected and be forced to battle to the death? Interesting premise and high gore level, but the focus on (admittedly cool) FX and style at the expense of story makes it ultimately unfulfilling.

Over-the-top, super-gory, low-budget science-fiction fun! I originally called Evil Dead Trap anime done live but I was wrong; THIS is anime done live--think The Guyver mixed with Tetsuo 2:Body Hammer. And thumbs up to the makers for actually saying the title in the film even if it is only once and at the very end. Be forewarned though it is subtitled.
