Description:
- Grandmaster Melle Mel, along with New York contemporaries and label-mates Grandmaster Flash and The Sugarhill Gang, was a key Hip Hop pioneer. Melle Mel developed his rapping style and skills during his early days as a disc jockey when he used to talk rhymes over music. Following the global success of The Sugarhill Gang's seminal 'Rapper's Delight' in 1979, he teamed up with another disc Jockey, Grandmaster Flash, to produce a string of hit singles which were to define the Hip Hop sound and cross it over into the pop mainstream. Amongst these were two all-time classics of the genre, 'The Message' and 'White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)'. These and other equally-significant songs from Melle Mel's early Eighties repertoire feature in this concert filmed at the 2006 Lokerse Festival.
