Audience Reviews for Metro

Before I say anything in this review, I have to admit that I really do not like disaster movies - most of the time I cannot stand them! That is why I waited for some time before watching Metro, a Russian film directed by Anton Megerdichev and written by Denis Kuryshev and Viktoriya Yevseyeva. After watching it, I had one thought: I wish I didn't wait.

The closest description of this work of art, and that is a real work of art, is a disaster movie, but it has so many elements of mystery and drama (even a thriller and romance come to mind) that will keep you glued to your seat for well over 2 hours! Film is set in the Moscow subway system, a system on the verge of collapse due to a water leak that sends the Moscow River racing through the tunnels, some of them built in 1935 as bunkers... and inevitable happens - involving hundreds of people... some trapped underground between the real maze of walls filling up with water quickly but, sadly, most of the others as lifeless bodies. The story decides to follow the life, and all the dramatic events from above and underground, specifically focusing on personal tragedies of the last survivors.

One of them is a surgeon from state run hospital with his young daughter; another one is a businessman working in the building boom industry in central Moscow, probably responsible for the crack forming in the tunnel between two metro stations; a young man and a young woman who became attracted to each other just before the accident happened; a middle aged lonely alcoholic woman and a little Chihuahua... The best part of the story development is that the surgeon Dr Garin trying to save the surviving passengers, is saving his wife's lover as well. Garin has to overcome his bitterness, anger and fear...

Perfectly casted Russian stars Sergey Puskepalis, Anatoliy Belyy, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Aleksey Bardukov and Kseniya Berezina were a part of this first big budget Russian disaster movie which is not much about death as is about how to survive in order to build or rebuild love, family and happy life.

If you are a lover of amazing photography and outstanding camera work - do not miss the first few opening minutes! That is where everything starts and builds up to an emotional journey which will make you think about life itself and our ways and choices.
