Critic Review - Globe and Mail

Our hero has found his groove among the Lost Generation and, for us, there's some amusement to be had in sharing Gil's thrills -- it's like stepping into a Classic Comics version of A Moveable Feast.

It embraces the city but it's not enough for a movie. "Some amusement"??? That's enough for you? Your words betray you. "It's like stepping into a Classic Comics version..."?! right, why not just say it's a juvenile effort.

I understand why 10/15% of the film is in french. BUT WHY NO SUBTITLES?! This film had possibilities, but Allen succumbed to cliches. Rachel McAdams' character and her parents were one big cliche after another. Why is the film so slow? So unfunny? Because Owen Wilson's character is unsympathetic and stupid. Did someone think showing us famous names from the twenties and having them spout some lines was enough for a movie?! After VICKY CHRISTINA, this effort was very disappointing.
