A Taste of What's "Next" for Nicolas Cage
Any time I hear the phrase "movie based on a Philip K. Dick story," I know I have to do a little more research. The next PKD adaptation is Lee Tamahori's "Next," which stars Nicolas Cage as a man who can see the future and Jessica Biel as a woman who is really, really sexy.

The late and legendary author is earning himself as posthumous biopic, and it looks like Oscar-nominee Paul Giamatti will be playing the central role.

"Lookout" for Gugino, Goode, and Fisher
Carla Gugino, Matthew Goode, and Isla Fisher have signed on to co-star with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Scott Frank's "The Lookout," which looks to be a crime thriller of some sort. (But with Mr. Frank at the helm, the project's starting off on the right foot.)

Paramount Buys Itself a Christmas Present: DreamWorks Pictures
Paramount Pictures, a unit of Viacom Inc., has signed a definitive agreement to acquire DreamWorks SKG for $1.6 billion in cash and assumption of debt. The deal brings Paramount key assets, including all of DreamWorks' current projects in development. an ongoing production partnership with Steven Spielberg and David Geffen, an exclusive, worldwide distribution agreement with DreamWorks Animation beginning in 2006, DreamWorks' live-action library, DreamWorks' television division and its properties, and exclusive rights to future DreamWorks Animation characters in TV shows.

Scott Frank, screenwriter on such films as "Out of Sight," "Minority Report," and "The Interpreter," will make his directorial debut on the dramatic thriller "The Lookout." (Which, not surprisingly, he already wrote.) Variety reports that the Disney-based project will be a relatively low-budget affair, and that it will also star a rather unlikely leading man.
