A gritty heist film that helped director Bruce Beresford raise the money to make BREAKER MORANT, MONEY MOVERS stars Terence Donovan as Eric Jackson. For five long years, Jackson's been planning to rob his employer, a company which specializes in transporting cash shipments and other valuables and is now prepared to execute his scheme. The company's owner, Lionel Darcy (Frank Wilson), has his back against the wall, due to repeated armed robberies in recent months, and his inability to provide the security he promises could mean the end of his business. Jackson, of course, doesn't want the company to fold before he gets his shot at an imminent shipment of $20 million. But Darcy, who has received some anonymous tips about the possibility of a hit from the inside, is becoming suspicious. He's also leery of Leo Bassett (Tony Bonner), a young associate of Jackson who is clearly unsuited to the work for which he's supposedly been hired. Jackson's problems multiply when the king of local crime, Jack Henderson (Charles Tingwell), gets wind of Darcy's suspicions and expresses in no uncertain terms his interest in being cut in on any potential action. A very good genre film, well-directed and extremely well-acted down to the smallest role. [Less]
