Filled with inside jokes about Hollywood and production companies cranking out movie after movie and even including a fake promotional trailer between the two short films, MOVIE MOVIE will receive a round of applause from lovers of classic movies. The first film follows a boxer's dramatic saga in edgy black and white; the second, in color, is a throwback to the golden days of the musical comedy. Very familiar with both genres, Donen gives these stories the edge that most satire directors would miss, and it's a credit to him that he can mock films that made his own name famous. The cast, including George C. Scott, does double duty by playing roles in both films, demonstrating its acting range and emphasizing the suspension of disbelief in which all moviegoers engage and delight. [More]
